Last week on Once Upon A Time, the Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) as the 2nd Dark One is all over town – Storybrooke and 3 weeks ago Camelot. Hook is bad to the bone and throwing zingers at Emma (Jennifer Morrison), calling her an orphan and a distraction. He crushes Merlin’s heart, so that mystery is solved. Hook and Gold (Robert Carlyle) have a duel. Robin and Regina (Sean Maguire and Lana Parilla) decide to let Zelena (Rebecca Mader) into their lives and the baby’s, even though they know they will probably regret it.

Spoilers below.

Once Upon A Time 5.11 “Swan Song” recap/review: It begins with a Killian flashback, of him as a little boy, whose father sold him and his brother into servitude.

In the present, the dark ones pass through our Storybrooke heroes, branding them with the mark of Charon. This means that they will have to live in the underworld, so the dark ones can live.

Snow, Charming, Henry and the baby go have a last dinner at Granny’s, while Emma frantically searches for a way out. And she thinks she has. She will draw all the darkness into her, and sacrifice herself to save everyone she loves. She’s relying on Regina to help her.

Speaking of Regina, she green smokes Zelena back to Oz… to be continued.

Speaking of Regina again, she tried to get through to Hook, by bringing up their mutual past (Regina hired Hook to kill her mother). But there was a test. He had to face the father who abandoned him.

The question of the day was, “What kind of man do you want to be?”

My Hook was the hero I knew him to be. He could not let his love die, and sacrificed himself instead, begging Emma to let him.

Rumplestiltskin was the man HE wanted to be, becoming a Mega Dark One, with all the power of the old dark ones now in his possession.

Emma heard the dagger whispering, and knew he had it. Confronting him, she wanted to make a deal. Help her go to the Underworld and rescue Hook, or she will reveal all to Belle.

The last scene shows the whole group getting into Charon’s boat.

I love how Once Upon A Time has multiple storylines swirling like magic around each other, that seem to come to a conclusion, just as new ones open up. It really is like a soap opera that way (and I guess it really is one). I think I’ve mentioned this about this show and one or two others. The drama, heartbreak, and intrigue do make for good television, but sometimes I get tired for the characters. There’s never a day where the adventure rests, and the happy couple do laundry, pay bills, and argue over what to have for dinner. I want that for them.

Once Upon A Time returns Sunday, March 6th, 2016 on ABC.

ABC’s synopsis:

The dark siege of Storybrooke is underway as all of the resurrected Dark Ones target a living soul for sacrifice so that they can return to the realm of the living. With doom imminent, Gold advises Mary Margaret, David and the rest of the heroes to spend their last fleeting moments enjoying the company of their loved ones. Emma, however, refuses to give up, knowing that she is responsible for righting all the poor choices she made as Dark One – there’s only one problem, Dark Hook. When they face-off with the fate of Storybrooke at stake, Hook’s actions will devastate Emma in a way no one saw coming. In a Fairy Tale Land flashback, the Evil Queen tests Hook’s mettle by forcing him to confront a demon from his past before contracting him to dispatch one from hers.
