FOX’s ‘Wayward Pines’ Renewed For Season 2!
  |  @   |

Wayward Pines was a surprise ratings hit for FOX over the summer with a 10-episode run. The surprises continue however as Variety reports the show has been renewed for a second season, despite creator and showrunner Chad Hodge not returning. The show, about a mysterious town with a stranger populace, was based on books by Blake Crouch, and executive produced by M. Night Shyamalan; who along with his hit film The Visit had a stellar return to prominence in 2015. Both of them will return as Executive Producers.

Spoilers from season one below.

In the pilot, damaged Secret Service agent, Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) ends up in the titular Idaho town after a car accident. He finds people from his past, people looking to escape, and yet, no way out. Turns out… spoiler alert… it is actually 2,000 years in the future and Wayward Pines is the last hope of humanity, where a chosen few were frozen in suspended animation and awoken to restart a utopian style, albeit totalitarian state. The series also starred Carla Gugino, Oscar winner Melissa Leo, Shannyn Sossamon and Toby Jones, who was the genius behind the town. The series seemed to come to definitive conclusion, with Ethan giving his life to presumably save others, and stop the mutated monsters that penetrated the walls but when his son awakens, we find the world left in the hands of progeny, trained to continue the fascist state of Wayward Pines.

While there are no casting decisions of yet, the second season will apparently pick up soon after we left off, with a new stranger showing up during a rebellion, as the residents battle on how to preserve what is left of the human race. The new 10-episode run of Wayward Pines will debut on Fox in the summer of 2016.
