‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Trailer: It’s Definitely Bigger Than The Last One
  |  @   |

The much anticipated trailer for the trailer for Independence Day sequel Independence Day: Resurgence has finally arrived. Twenty years after the first film became a hit, director Roland Emmerich is back for some more, and he is bringing with him a few familiar faces to the franchise. Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Brent Spiner, Judd Hirsch, and Vivica A. Fox all return to reprise their respective roles. Will Smith is noticeably absent from the sequel – and the reason why is explained in the trailer – but his character’s son will be played by Jessie Usher.

So how much as changed since the events? Well, it appears that the world has adapted the technology used by the aliens to enhance military capabilities. But that is nothing compared to what’s coming when the aliens suddenly return in full forced with a far more advanced technology than the ones they saw back in 1996. Check out the first trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence here below.

A few things to notice. Based on the trailer it looks like President Whitmore (Bill Pullman) still has a psychic connection to the aliens that was never severed in the first film. This is having quite an affect on him as he is the one who gives the warning that the aliens are coming back. Hirsch also makes a brief appearance in the trailer as his character watches the sky burn when the aliens arrive. And it looks like Fox’s character went from stripper to doctor?

The trailer then goes on a nostalgia trip as it plays back Pullman’s speech which was first heard before the climatic fight between the humans and aliens in the first film. While there have been some disappointed that they couldn’t get Mae Whitman to reprise her role as President Whitmore’s daughter, It Follow‘s star Maika Monroe must have done something right to earn that role. She will play the love interest to Liam Hemsworth‘s chaacter.

Independence Day featured dog fights between the aliens and humans while on Earth, which was pretty exciting. Now it looks like Resurgence will take that concept to space.

Also starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Angelababy, William Fichtner, and Sela Ward, Independence Day: Resurgence opens in theaters on June 24, 2016.

We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
