The big development of last week’s episode was that Amanda Fisher (Jill Marie Jones) is now part of the gang. Ruby (Lucy Lawless) burnt up, and blew up fighting the Brujo deadite, and Ash’s evil decomposing hand scurried off. Fisher was saved by Ash (Bruce Campbell) at the diner, and with no one to turn to she joined up with Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) and Pablo (Ray Santiago). Ash realizes now, that in order to finally put a stop to the Evil Dead, he must go back to where it all started… the cabin. But first, there’s Lem.

Spoilers below.

Lem (Peter Feeney) was Ash’s old drinking buddy, but is now sober and happy in the Michigan Militia. He invites Ash and gang, but gets possessed by the Evil Dead en route, and when Ash and company stumble into the camp they find the remains of disemboweled militia crew and everyone else huddled inside. The gang is mistaken for government conspirators (of course they are), and while Kelly and Pablo manage to escape, Fisher and Ash are cuffed together and thrown in a bunker with deadite Lem. Ash tries to put things in perspective for Fisher;

“Most people go through life thinking they’re totally safe. People like us know the truth. Life is hard and dangerous and sometimes you just have to chop somebody’s head off to survive.”

He then tries to comfort her as only Ash can – by hitting on her. To her credit, Fisher doesn’t totally shut him down, and their banter gets more “friendly” as the episode moves on. They discuss Ruby and Ash wonders who she was. As Fisher talks, we see Ruby rise naked and without a scratch from the ashes of the Brujo fire… hmmm… what the hell is she? And how did she get the dagger from Evil Dead 2?!?!

Meanwhile, hiding out from the militia gives Kelly and Pablo a chance to discuss what their weapon of choice is against evil. Kelly wants a flame thrower, because why not after the death of her parents and a demonic possession. Pablo is unsure and he’s adorable as he goes through the options; “Am I an axe guy… tazer guy… rusty chain?”

“Wish I had my rusty chain yo” – Pablo
“No” – Kelly

In the end, Kelly and Pablo defeat the militia and some deadites, but not before Pablo getting doused in enough blood to make Peter Jackson’s early movies jealous. Ash and Amanda team up to kill Deadite Lem, and apparently killing deadites is a huge aphrodisiac because they are ready to get it on after…

“Hunny Bunny, I’d destroy you in the best possible way.” Oh Bruce, only you could get away with that line.

The gang of four is now heavily armed with militia gear and there’s only one place left to go… but Ash’s guilt about putting them in danger might be getting the best of him. We conclude another bloody fun half hour with the severed deadite hand arriving to the cabin”¦ next episode, Ash comes home!

Ash vs. Evil Dead is probably my favorite new show on TV for several reasons. First off, I’m an unabashed Evil Dead fan who has lived and worshipped this character and actor for 20+ years. But mostly because it is 30-minutes, and packs so much fun and ridiculousness into that time. This episode was chock full of hilarious dialogue, absurd pick up lines, and blood and guts galore. And the soundtrack gets better and better. Time has come today!

Ash vs Evil Dead returns next Saturday night at 9:00 ET on Starz.
