Speedrunners Beat ‘Fallout 3’ In 15 Mins, ‘New Vegas’ In 20 Mins (Videos)
  |  @   |

The Fallout speedrunners competition is going strong. Recently a player who goes by Kungkobra beat Fallout: New Vegas in a record 21:02, which was then beaten a day later by player Swags_The_Dog with a 20:54 run. Another day later Kungkobra reclaimed the record with a 20:47 run, which is currently the record. Though that could change at any time the way things are going.

Back in July of 2014 we saw someone beat Fallout 3 in a little under 24 minutes, which was then pretty quickly beaten by someone who pulled off a run in a little over 23 minutes. While this post was originally just to share the crazy New Vegas run, I discovered that these Fallout 3 runs don’t even get you in the top 25 anymore. In fact, a player called Petite_Miku just broke the record for that game again a couple of days ago with a ridiculous 15-minute run.

You can check out the speedrunners’ record-breaking videos for Fallout 3 and New Vegas below.

If interested in keeping track of which speedrunners are breaking various video game records, there’s actually a website for that.

As you can see there, Fallout 4, which only just came out last month, has already been beaten in just an hour and seven minutes. It took me 45 minutes just to create my character in that game, and I’m fast approaching the 100-hour mark (and still loving every second of it), so I probably shouldn’t attempt to break any speedrunning records anytime soon.

THIS TIME IT IS OFFICIAL!

Only real mistake was failing lucky 38 clip #3. I got bad damage taken too so i had to spend extra seconds binding healing items.

This is a Fallout: New Vegas speedrun in the Any% category, which means any glitches and exploits (Except console commands and game modifications) are allowed.

The character build is based on getting 100 speech and getting the platinum chip as fast as possible, so we choose a female character for the Black Widow perk, 10 Charisma, tag speech and select Good Natured for maximum speech. We also want to get 45 survival later on for the Travel Light perk (10% extra movement speed).

The glitches/exploits used in the run all involve quicksaving and quickloading (abbreviated as QSQL), and it’s used for skipping NPC dialogue (Doc Mitchell notably), clipping through walls and to get a glitch called Speedcripple.

We get Speedcripple using the Mercenary’s Grenade Launcher from the Courier’s Stash DLC, because it’s faster and easier to pull off the glitch with.

When you cripple your leg, your speed is set to 0, then bring back to 60% of your normal speed. By quickloading just before getting crippled, you can confuse the game into giving you 60% without actually being put to 0 ( because we don’t actually really get crippled). So you get a huge speedboost, and walk at 160% of your normal speed.

  1. i think these speed runs are cool, but really can we not use the glitches and such and just play the game as a normal person would and see how fast you can get it done, without cheats or glitching?

  2. I agree. It’s cool if done legitimately. These aren’t speed runs. These are cheat runs.

  3. this is sad if u think this is speed running by using mod’s and skipping just about everything your wrong. I don’t consider this a speed run

  4. Using mods? In an any% speedrun you cant use mods nor console commands.
