Happy New Year, Brooklyn Nine-Nine! It’s funny, because in the last episode, Brooklyn Nine-Nine really was in a hostage situation, a la Die Hard, with Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) emerging as the hero. This one… not so much. You’ll see.
Episode 3.11 “Hostage Situation” starts off with… Holt (Andre Braugher) dancing! Jake (Andy Samberg): “What is happening!” I am right there with you buddy!
Spoilers below.
Charles and Genevieve decided to try to have a baby, even though Boyle is sterile (pummeled in the groin with a bat). Luckily, he banked his sperm. Unluckily his ex-wife is…
“Eleanor? The destroyer of worlds?”
The “hostage” is all of Boyle’s banked sperm, and Jake is all over that (Ewww!!!). Of course, Eleanor doesn’t want the sperm for any real reason, she just wants leverage for Charles to get her out of a sticky legal situation.
“Please don’t dump my sperm on us!” Yes. That’s a line.
They try for some leverage of their own – the hairdresser “Abigail,” but of course the plan backfires and one cup of sperm ends up down the garbage disposal.
After that, it gets more ridiculous. Charles handcuffs Jake to his car and goes to intimidate a 90-year old priest. Jake stun guns Charles to stop him. Jake does manage to get through to Charles, and the resolution is good, although not quite the way one expected.
The second storyline is a perp who refuses to talk… unless it’s to Gina. I don’t blame you, man. Turns out they went to school together and kissed once. Gina fails fabulously. But Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) ended up getting him to talk by talking trash with him about Gina.
The third little storyline is Santiago (Melissa Fumero) sucking up to Terry (Terry Crews) to get a recommendation, and ends up hurting him multiple times – a classic. SHe broke his nose and burned him with hot tea. You know Terry came through anyway – and even bigger.
Good episode. I didn’t feel as if they used Gina to her full potential, and it didn’t sit well with me that Charles’s morals went askew.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine airs Tuesday nights at 9:00pm ET on FOX.
