‘Firewatch’ Coming February 9th For $19.99; New Preview Videos Released
  |  @   |

One of the most exciting upcoming video game releases (at least for me anyway) just got a little bit more exciting. The game is called Firewatch, and it looks truly remarkable in its simplicity.

Not only will the game be released on February 9th (less than a week from now!), but it will be available not for the usual $60 new game price tag, but for only $20, which is pretty amazing. On top of that, I just discovered that geek favorite artist Olly Moss worked on the art for the game as well.

You can find more info and watch a handful of new preview videos for Firewatch below.

Because the game is only $20 it’s expected to be quite short, but there’s nothing wrong with that. I’ve always dreamed of games that offer short 4-8 hour campaigns that feel like playing a movie for cheaper than the usual release price of games, unlike The Order: 1886, which looked like a great time but kept the large price tag despite being very short.

Don’t get me wrong, I do love an unforgettable 50-100+ hour adventure in one of the larger RPG titles, but my stack of unplayed and unfinished games grows bigger and bigger, and the thought of being able to complete one of the games I’m most looking forward to in a day or two excites me, frankly.

INFO:

Firewatch is a mystery set in the Wyoming wilderness, where your only emotional lifeline is the person on the other end of a handheld radio.

In Firewatch you play as a man named Henry who has retreated from his messy life to work as a fire lookout in the Wyoming wilderness. Perched high atop a mountain, it’s your job to look for smoke and keep the wilderness safe. An especially hot, dry summer has everyone on edge. Your supervisor, a woman named Delilah, is available to you at all times over a small, handheld radio “” and is your only contact with the world you’ve left behind.

But when something strange draws you out of your lookout tower and into the world, you’ll explore a wild and unknown environment, facing questions and making interpersonal choices that can build or destroy the only meaningful relationship you have.

If that’s enough to sell you, you can pre-order Firewatch on Steam for a 10% discount. Also, when the game is released on the PlayStation Network, PlayStation Plus members will be able to grab it for 10% off with some PS4 themes also coming.

Firewatch will be available for Windows, Mac, Linux, and PlayStation 4 on February 9th. The only truly depressing thing left related to this game is the fact that I don’t yet own a PC or PS4 to play it on. I shall have to wait while others enjoy.
