‘Get A Job’ Trailer: Dusty Old Miles Teller and Anna Kendrick Comedy Finally Gets Pulled Off Shelf
  |  @   |

Back in 2012, there was a little movie called Get A Job from director Dylan Kidd (Rodger Dodger, P.S.), starring Miles Teller and Anna Kendrick as twentysomething year olds with what they thought was excellent job security, only to realize that their jobs weren’t as secure as first thought. Going through the motions of finding a job, the film starts to reveal that it really isn’t so much about what the characters are struggling with, but more of a romantic comedy that uses the Great Recession as a subplot.

Then there is the fact that the film feels a little bit outdated, since production was completed way back in 2012, where it has since been sitting on the shelf at CBS Films. Now, we can finally see the film for what it is, in the newly release trailer. Check it out below.

I was fairly interested in seeing the film when it was first announced, again, back in 2012. It touted a pretty interesting cast all with great comedic range. In addition to Teller and Kendrick, Bryan Cranston, Marcia Gay Harden, Alison Brie, John Cho, Marc Maron, and Jay Pharoah, plus Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Nicholas Braun also star. This is the exact kind of cast any one would like to see in a comedy like this one. Alas, the trailer reveals that the film only uses the Great Recession as a sort of crutch, and the event really has nothing to do with the film as we have seen many where characters lose their jobs only to rediscover themselves as they try to find new ones.

The trailer also seems to reveal a good chunk of the film in its very short 1:52 minute run time. They have a job. Boyfriend loses a job. Boyfriend struggles to get a new job. Girlfriend asks boyfriend to step it up. Boyfriend gets a job and wants to celebrate. Girlfriend then loses a job. Girlfriend struggles to get a new job. Boyfriend asks Girlfriend to step it up. You get the gist. A tiresome and circular motion that just gets hashed over and over again.

Still, the trailer has a few moments. But are there enough of them to make this film memorable? Let’s hope so.

Get a Job hits theaters and VOD on March 25.

Here’s the official plotline for the film.

Life after college graduation is not exactly going as planned for Will (Miles Teller) and Jillian (Anna Kendrick) who find themselves lost in a sea of increasingly strange jobs. But with help from their family (Bryan Cranston), friends and coworkers they soon discover that the most important (and hilarious) adventures are the ones that we don’t see coming.

  1. No Bryan Cranston performance should remain on a shelf, if it were not for Fantastic Four, the same could be said about Miles Teller. But am I the only one in the room who finds Anna Kendrick a little bit creepy?
