If the most recent movie take on The Three Stooges from the Farrelly brothers in 2012 didn’t live up to your expectations, well…this new movie probably isn’t going to ignite much excitement in you either.

It’s being reported that a new take on the Stooges is in development that will follow the comedy trio when they’re 12 years old. The movie, which comes from C3 Entertainment and is tentatively titled The Three Little Stooges, is planned to be a live-action family flick.

The hope is that the movie will launch a new film franchise. A writer and director are already locked in, with Harris Goldberg set to handle both jobs. Goldberg previously worked as a writer on Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo, The Master of Disguise, Without a Paddle, and I’ll Be Home for Christmas. He also wrote and directed 2007’s Numb.

C3’s Pablo Velez will produce The Three Little Stooges, with Earl Benjamin (who was a producer on the aforementioned Farrelly brothers’ 2012 movie) and Robert Benjamin executive producing along with Trevor Drinkwater and Brian O’Shea.

Of the announcement, O’Shea said “The Three Stooges are iconic and on the level of such global comedy brands like Police Academy, Pink Panther and Mr. Bean.”
