‘Ready Player One’ Also Reschedules Itself To Get Away From ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’

There could be a variety of reasons as to why a film is rescheduled. Sometimes it’s needed to fix the film or to better position themselves for a better production at the box office. But whatever the reason may be, it happens. But recently, any film that shares the same release date as Star Wars or is scheduled close to its release date find themselves being rescheduled.
Now that Star Wars: Episode VIII has been pushed back to a December 15, 2017 release, many were wondering if films scheduled near that date would be rescheduled. For reasons unknown, Fox has already confirmed that Avatar 2 will be moving to a new date that has yet to be announced. Now Steven Spielberg‘s Ready Player One is also making a move to a new date. According to a new report, the film is being pushed back all the way to 2018. Not only that, but WB has also announced that The Flash is getting a new release date as well. More on the story below.
ERCBoxoffice confirmed the news in a Tweet posted earlier today. Ready Player One‘s new release date will be March 30, 2018.
Game on. WB's READY PLAYER ONE will now drop March 30, 2018 instead of Dec. 15, 2017.
Though Star Wars has shown that it isn’t entirely invincible, placing Ready Player One during the month of March gives the film enough time to get away from the heavy hitter. Now the film finds itself in direct contention with one of Universal’s series of Classic Monsters reboots, The Wolf Man. But the new release for the adaptation of Ernest Cline’s novel has forced the studio to push up the release of The Flash, which will now be released one week earlier from its original March 23, 2018, release to March 16, 2018.
Olivia Cooke and Ben Mendelsohn are currently the only ones who star in Ready Player One. The Flash, starring Ezra Miller, will be directed by Seth Grahame-Smith.
Looking at the schedule from BoxOfficeMojo, WB also has an untitled film set for release on March 2. It’s not clear what that film is, but it looks as though they are at least trying to get away from the busy summer blockbuster season. Other films that are set to be released in March are Gigantic from Disney on March 9th, Anubis from Fox on March 23rd, and an untitled DreamWorks animated film on March 23rd.
