‘Frozen’ Broadway Show Will Hit The Stage In 2018
  |  @   |

With Frozen being the massive hit that it is today, there is no way that Disney will ever “let it go” (Yes I went there). Frozen Fever, an animated short, was released last year and attached to showings of Cinderella. And now we are getting a sequel.

But it doesn’t stop with just the films. In fact, the film was such a huge success that Disney announced that there would be a Broadway adaptation. Now it appears that they have ironed out the kinks, and have set an early engagement, which will then be followed by an official release. More on the story below.

According to the Frozen Broadway official Twitter account, we can expect to see an early engagement of the musical adaptation as early as summer 2017, and it is slated for a summer 2018 debut.

As aforementioned, the show will play its out-of-town tryout beginning in summer 2017 at a theatre to be announced. After that, it will make its Broadway debut at a theatre to be announced in spring 2018.

Now that we have the confirmation, here’s some other news that you may or may not already know.

The creative team that put together the musical lyrics heard in Frozen are coming back. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez are returning to write the music and lyrics as they did for the feature film while co-director and screenwriter Jennifer Lee will pen the book. The show will be directed by Alex Timbers (Here Lies Loves, The Pee-wee Herman Show).

Peter Darling will be working on choreography, while Bob Crowley (Mary Poppins, The Coast of Utopia, An American in Paris), will be responsible for scenic and costume design. Natasha Katz (Aladdin, An American in Paris, The Glass Menagerie) will handle the lighting design, while Peter Hylensk (The Scolsboro Boys,Motown, After Midnight) takes on duties as a sound designer. Finally, music supervision, vocal and incidental music arrangements will be done by Stephen Oremus (Avenue Q, Wicked, The Book of Mormon).

Disney hopes that because Frozen has such a huge following that it can mirror the success of their previous Broadway hits like The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. It is set to debut But that remains to be seen.

Casting and Broadway dates and theatre will be announced at a future date.

While it has been a few years since the film has been released, and the film and its songs may or may not have worn out their welcome, as long as Frozen stays a hit in a full-feature, animated short, or Broadway musical, Disney will continue to give their fans more it.
