‘Avatar’ Actor Stephen Lang On Why He Should Play Cable In ‘Deadpool 2’
  |  @   |

So Deadpool basically took out the competition this weekend with a rousing $150 million four-day opening weekend. With those kinds of numbers, there is no question that we are getting a sequel. And apparently, director Tim Miller, Deadpool lead Ryan Reynolds, and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have a small idea of who they would like to see in it.

Minor spoilers for Deadpool follow.

During Deadpool‘s post-credits scene, the title character, who was strutting around in a bathrobe of all things, confirmed that Cable will be in the sequel and that time travel will be involved. Well, when it comes to a character like Cable, you bet there is going to be some time travel. But that post-credits scene does confirm one thing at least: Deadpool will be its own sequel, not a an X-Force film as previously speculated.

Now, on to Stephen Lang. Well, it’s probably best if I let his post to Twitter do all the explaining:

Now despite Deadpool saying (and likely joking) that they are considering Mel Gibson, Dolph Lundgren, and Keira Knightley for the role of Cable, Lang does make a convincing argument why he should also be in the running. After all, he did star in Avatar, which was a film distributed by 20th Century Fox, and he did star in TerraNova, which was a 20th Century Fox Television show. So there could be some reason as to why he released this photo on social media. He does have the look, and clearly he is in shape. But despite being in multiple Fox projects, he doesn’t have the name recognition, but still, some of the great unknowns have gotten huge roles. Look where Tom Hiddleston is now. But name recognition does come in handy once in a while, so we’ll just have to wait and see if it does again for Cable.

For those who may not know who Cable is, he is the adult son of the X-Man Cyclops (Scott Summers) and Madelyne Pryor (Jean Grey’s clone). He is a time-traveling soldier known for his solid build, a robotic arm, and expert marksmanship. Seeing what the future is, Cable travels back in time to prevent certain events from occurring to ensure a better future for both mutants and humans.

  1. Would love to see him as Cable. He’d be great.

  2. Agreed. I like Stephen Lang as Cable much better than any of the other names being thrown around.
