Stephen Amell May Have Match at Wrestlemania 32!
  |  @   |

The WWE is having it’s 32nd supercard this year in Texas at Jerry Jones’ AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys. Since 1985, Wrestlemania has been the Super Bowl for WWE and Chairman Vince McMahon. Like the Super Bowl, Wrestlemania has always had big time celebrity involvement. At the very first show celebs like Liberace, Muhammad Ali, and Cyndi Lauper were there, AND Mr. T wrestled in the main event tag match with partner Hulk Hogan. Over the following four decades, celebrities have been used as ring announcers, managers, interviewers, and most notably performers. NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor main evented Wrestlemania 11 in Hartford, Connecticut against Bam Bam Bigelow, while Maria Menounos of Extra and Access Hollywood participated in a tag team match at Wrestlemania 28. Just last year WWE used major celebrity street cred to sell it’s SummerSlam show in August, in the names of former Daily Show host Jon Stewart and Arrow star Stephen Amell. Well, just like his DC superhero character, you can’t seem to keep a good hero down. After a Comic Con confrontation, it seems Amell may be making his Wrestlemania debut this year against his arch nemesis, WWE wrestler, Stardust.

Check out Stardust confronting Stephen Amell at Dallas Comic-Con 2016 in the video below.

In the late spring 2015, Amell was sitting ringside when WWE superstar Stardust (Cody Rhodes) got in his face. Stardust plays a supervillain style character with his face painted. The two began a massive twitter war that finally culminated when Amell agreed to team with the high flying Neville to face Stardust and his partner King Barrett at SummerSlam at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Amell, a lifelong wrestling fan, who follows a crazy workout regimen for Arrow, held his own, even delivering some eyebrow raising high risk moves off the ropes. He and Neville were victorious and things seemed over until November when WWE held its Slammy Awards celebration, a takeoff on the Oscars. Amell, despite not being in attendance won a Slammy for best celebrity moment of the year, a trophy which was stolen by Stardust.

More twitter exchanges led to an apparent agreement where the two would meet at a winter comic convention to exchange the award and auction it to raise money for Elijah Mainville. Mainville is a young boy battling cancer got to be part of WWE event with his favorite wrestler Stardust (yes even bad guys have young fans), and debut his wrestler name Drax Shadow! Due to the terrible winter weather, Amell and Stardust’s confrontation got delayed until, ironically until they were together in Dallas at Comic Con Fan Day Saturday night. Stardust interrupted and joined the stage during Amell’s panel discussion, and even took questions from the crowd. When the topic of their previous encounter came up, Stardust made sure to remind Amell that is was a tag match, and hinted at a future one on one encounter. After he signed the Slammy, he handed to Amell and then tossed a cup of water in the star’s face to huge jeers and gasps from the fans.

There is also another hint to a connection between the actor and WWE. Amell will be co-starring in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film as Casey Jones, alongside former WWE Champion Sheamus who is playing one of the villains, Rocksteady. A big time match between Amell and Stardust, on the grandest stage of them all, in front of what could be one of the WWE’s largest crowds ever could do wonders for TMNT’s box office. While the match isn’t confirmed, it seems likely the two will collide again.

You can see Stephen Amell on Arrow at 8:00pm ET on Wednesday nights on the CW. Stardust is a regular on WWE programming. Its feature show is Monday Night Raw, starting at 8:00pm ET on USA. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is due out on June 3rd, 2016 in theaters everywhere. Wrestlemania 32 is Sunday, April 3rd live on the WWE Network and on PPV.
