Last week on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, it was 1986 and they were looking into Operation Svarog, a secret Soviet project that Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) was involved in. Ray and Snart (Brandon Routh and Wentworth Miller) teamed up to get info from this beautiful Russian madwoman, who is trying to build a Russian Firestorm. Ray strikes out, but Snart piques her interest for a while. Predictable fight ensues and half of them are captured. Sara and Hawkgirl (Caity Lotz and Ciara Renee) train as a way for Hawkgirl to control the animal within. But Sara still has limited control over herself, and is humbled. The Timemaster confronts Hunter (Arthur Darvill), offering him immunity and safe passage for the team. But it’s a lie.

Spoilers below.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow 1.5 “Fail-Safe” review: Cisco (guest Carlos Valdes) was on tonight’s episode! Yay! He and Dr. Stein (Victor Garber) were discussing Firestorm’s unstable core. But Cisco was acting super weird (more than usual). Aw shucks. It’s not Cisco. Just Valentina (Stephanie Corneliussen) creating an illusion to get Dr. Stein to spill. Crump walks in, “Blah, blah, blah… I was friends with Stalin,” going on to describe to Stein his torture methods.

The rest of the gang go to some Russian baths, to get the Russian mob, to give info on the Russian prison – Koshmar Gulag (wasn’t that the same prison Arrow’s Lyla was in in season 2?).

Rip shows Sara a world of Russian Firestorms, in particular, Star City, the consequences of an unsuccessful mission. He wants Sara to kill Stein should he be compromised. Snart figures out the secret in about 3 seconds, and tries to give real good-guy advice. Love him.

Mick and Ray are trying to acclimate to prison life. Mick is okay, but Ray is soooo out of his element. He gets his ass totally kicked, but Mick does not help him.

Stein doesn’t talk so they start torturing Ray and Mick.

Sara doesn’t get Stein in time. She’s prepared to kill him.

Snart goes to grab Mick, who won’t leave Ray behind, because he took a beating for him. Snart’s reply? “Raymond would take a beating for a total stranger.” He’s right. It’s “prison break” time once again for Snart and Mick.

Stein and Valentina merge. But she’s literally unstable. Jax is able to talk him through his escape, with Hawkgirl’s help.

Lines of the episode:

Snart: “There’s always time to steal.”
Mick: “More drinking less feeling.”

Everything seems like a win, until…

“Boba Fett” is shooting at the ship, causing it to go out of orbit.

They crash land in Star City in 2046, and they are confronted by Green Arrow who is not Oliver Queen. It’s Connor Hawke! I know it. I really cannot wait until next week.

This episode was good. I think it still needs to find its footing, because the most exciting parts for me were when Cisco and “Green Arrow” were on screen. I’m glad they successfully fixed the timeline this time. I might be getting sick of Vandal Savage. The jury is still out on that one.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow airs Thursdays at 8:00pm ET on The CW.
