‘Pete’s Dragon’ Trailer Gives Exciting Glimpse At Classic “Boy and His Dragon” Tale
  |  @   |

Following the release of the first poster for Disney’s reimagining of Pete’s Dragon comes the teaser trailer. Directed by David Lowery (Ain’t Them Body Saints), the film is a retelling of the 1977 cult classic about an orphan boy, Pete (Oakes Fegley), and his best friend, who just so happens to be a dragon named Elliot. The new film also stars Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard, Wes Bently, and Oona Laurence.

Check out the teaser trailer here below.

The trailer, which first appeared on the film’s official Twitter account, is more or less what those of us in attendance at last year’s D23 Expo saw, where Howard talked a little bit about the film and her character. But here is your first look at the film.

This is only a teaser trailer, so it’s a bit too early to show what this dragon looks like in full. Which is okay. The original film was not a huge hit with audiences, but it did find a cult following. The new film is also an unexpected choice for Lowery, who is perhaps better known for his directorial debut on Ain’t Them Body Saints.

Disney has made a bundle with these reimaginings, and they show no signs of slowing down considering they have already given the green light for other ones. I mean, if the concept works for them, why stop now. But if you feel a little disappointed that the trailer didn’t offer enough, don’t be. This is only a teaser trailer. There is obviously a lot more to show during its marketing campaign.

Pete’s Dragon arrives August 12, 2016.

For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales”¦until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon. Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” opens in U.S. theaters on August 12, 2016.
