We’ve all heard of the falling out between Edgar Wright and Marvel Studios. And while it may be a slight disappointment that we never got to see Wright’s vision in the MCU, the fallout may have been a blessing in disguise as the director was free to move onto Baby Driver. Early details revealed that the film would be about Baby, a young and talented getaway mute driver who suffers from a chronic ringing in his ears. However, Baby relies on the beat of his own soundtrack. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss, he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.
Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, Kevin Spacey, and Eiza Gonzalez, are all strapped in for the movie. And now the film is going to add The Walking Dead‘s Jon Bernthal. There are also a few more plot details being revealed. Check out the full story below.
Deadline was the first to break the news.
According to the site, it is Spacey’s Doc character who is the main villain that threatens Baby’s life and love, not Hamm’s character as previously speculated. However, new information tells us that Doc’s go-to professionals are Hamm “as Buddy the handsome party animal, Gonzalez as Darling, Buddy’s lawless and scandalous girlfriend and partner in crime, and Foxx as Bats, the impulsive gun-slinging cohort.” James will play Deborah, Baby’s innocent love interest. Bernthal will play Griff, and no other information on the character has been given. So you can start to guess if he will be a friend or foe to Baby.
Although many of us know Bernthal as Shane Walsh in the first two seasons of The Walking Dead, the actor has since then extended his filmography with roles in Me And Earl And The Dying Girl, The Wolf of Wall Street, Fury, and Sicario. But if you are looking for a TV fix, then he can next be seen as The Punisher in season two of Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil.
Wright is bringing in a few familiar faces to help him on the creative front. Bill Pope will be the film’s DP, Marcus Rowland is the production designer, and Paul MachlissWorking will be the film’s editor. Working Title’s Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan will act as producers on the film.
Baby Driver has just started shooting in Atlanta and is scheduled for a March 17, 2017 release.
