Last week on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, the heroes were smack in the middle of the cold war. The Soviets were trying to create their own Firestorms, capturing Stein (Victor Garber) for the prototype. Sara (Caity Lotz) almost killed him when she didn’t think she rescued him in time. Mick and Ray (Dominic Purcell and Brandon Routh) get captured and have to adjust to prison life. Ray puts himself in harm’s way for Mick, so Mick feels obligated to rescue him when Snart (Wentworth Miller) comes calling. Cue Prison Break music. Jax (Franz Drameh) totally comes through to save Stein. The bounty hunter catches up to them, hitting the ship, sending them to 2046.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow 1.6 “Star City 2046” review: The Legends are in Star City in 2046, and it looks like Mad Max moved in. Mick and Snart are loving it, Mick more so.

Random thug: “Where did you get that?” (His fire gun)
Mick: “Ebay”

Mick wants to stay here forever. He loves the fur and mayhem. “I’m gonna call you Fonzie. I’m gonna call you Kenicke.” Haha! Snart tries to be the voice of reason, but Mick is not listening.

Sara confronts the other Green Arrow (Joseph David-Jones). He tells her that Oliver Queen died 15 years ago during the uprising. In comes Deathstroke, Slade’s son (Jamie Andrew Cutler). Sara is reeling from that. Arrow Jr brings her and Rip (Arthur Darvill) down to the old headquarters, to see if the part they need to fix the ship is in Felicity’s old things. Out of the darkness walks Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), old, one arm, long beard, dead eyes. He tells Sara everyone is dead, and Felicity walked away (like she did last night on Arrow). Little Green Arrow is Connor Hawke who is John Diggle Jr. Old Oliver is quite surly, “You found your way in. Find your way out.”

The little side plot is that Jax has a crush on Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee), which Stein can feel, especially his anger at Ray flirting with her. Stein tries to suss out Ray’s interest, and inadvertently piques it. She shoots Ray down and everything’s good between Ray and Jax.

Mick is so happy and Snart is so bored, until Deathstroke announces he wants the Green Arrow, Sara, and Rip dead. He doesn’t really want to get involved, but Snart mentions friends (kinda opposite from last week). Deathstroke and goons capture Connor Hawke. Rip gives Sara one hour to save him, after giving a million reasons why it doesn’t matter what happens in this timeline as long as they eventually get back to 2016..

Snart and Mick pretty much break up, “You wanna stay here?” Mick really does. Snart knocks him out. I really thought they were always on the same page.

Sara goes to Ollie to get him to put on the hood to save Connor. I know I just saw Amell the day before all virile and full of fire, but I was still cheering watching this older, beaten Oliver pick up the mantle again. It wasn’t 30 years later for me, just a day, but it felt like the prodigal son returning for me as well.

Sara leaves Conner and Ollie to “get to work.”

She was right. Although this future will probably be erased once they fix the Vandal Savage problem and go back to 2016, there are no guarantees. They had to leave that future as optimistic as they could. That future was real.

This was the payoff episode. LoT has the most opportunities for brief (or lengthy) crossovers with al the time travel, and those will be the money episodes. There is something so weirdly satisfying when characters on TV shows visit each other.
