The time has come once again for that most hallowed and accessible of online streaming services known as Netflix to cut a few titles from its voluminous selection of films and television shows while adding many more guaranteed to please its subscriber base.

Below you’ll find my picks for the best of Netflix’s new additions for the month of March 2016. As usual, most of the titles are available for viewing at the start of the month, but there are a few more set to premiere later in the month that those of us unable to get out to the movie theater much will find to be of great interest.

Movies

Groundhog Day (March 1, 2016)

Sure, Netflix botched a cool opportunity to bring Harold Ramis‘ timeless comedy classic to their streaming service last month around the time of the actual Groundhog Day, but whatever. What matters is now we can watch Bill Murray, in one of his best performances as an egotistical weatherman trapped in a time loop in his least favorite place on planet, relive that same cursed day over and over again.

Hell & Back (March 5, 2016)

An R-rated animated feature about a pair of ordinary people encountering angels and demons in a quest to save a friend that features the voice talents of Mila Kunis, Bob Odenkirk, T.J. Miller, Rob Riggle, Susan Sarandon, Danny McBride, and Lance Bass? Sure I’ll give it a shot.

Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday (March 18, 2016)

Paul Reubens returns as his signature squeaky-voiced creation and this time Pee-Wee is inspired to leave his pleasant little home town and take a road trip in search of adventure and excitement. He almost immediately gets carjacked by a female gang of bank robbers, and judging by the trailer that ain’t nowhere near the half of it.

Scarface (March 1, 2016)

One of the last times Al Pacino reached silver screen immortality was as the loathsome, power-drunk drug kingpin Tony Montana in Brian DePalma‘s excessive epic masterpiece of blood, cocaine, incestuous designs, and horrific hairstyles.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (March 1, 2016)

The film that launched the mighty Starship Enterprise on its inaugural voyage as a tentpole franchise is far from perfect, but as the franchise went on and chose to embrace action and effects over emotion and ideas it remains a fascinating adventure into the unknown where the greatest challenge is showing a mechanized, planet-devouring leviathan what it means to love and to be loved.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (March 1, 2016)

The best of the Trek franchise bar none and one of my favorite films ever finds Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and company encountering an old foe in a fantastic battle in which a scientific breakthrough becomes both a valuable prize and a dangerous weapon.

Television

Daredevil: Season 2 (March 18, 2016)

The first season took its sweet time getting to the hardcore action, but the sophomore year of Daredevil shouldn’t have that problem as the Horned One (Charlie Cox) takes on the Punisher (Jon Bernthal) and encounters old flame/ninja assassin Elektra (Elodie Yung). This should be pretty good.

House of Cards: Season 4 (March 4, 2016)

What better time for Netflix’s politically-charged original drama series to return than in the midst of the weirdest, ugliest, and possibly greatest presidential election year of our time? Kevin Spacey returns as a backstabbing politician even Donald Trump would shy away from dealing with.

Among the titles that will be leaving Netflix this month are American Pie, The Comedy, Cosmopolis, Jumanji, and Masters of the Universe. You can find a complete list of this month’s departures here.

That wraps up my choices for the best movies and TV to watch this month on Netflix. Having a subscription is one of the best investments that someone who is rarely away from their laptop for long like myself can make. I highly recommend getting one. Come back next time for more recommendations.
