‘Big Hero 6’ TV Series To Debut On Disney XD In 2017

Disney Animation Studios has had some major success in the past. Almost all of them have been recognized for their work by the academy whether it was because of their song or just being a damn good animated film. And almost all of them have been given an animated short or even better, a sequel. Last year, Tangled got a TV series on the Disney Channel, and Frozen‘s success was reward with a sequel and a musical.

Now, it looks like Big Hero 6 will be getting the same treatment in terms of expanding the franchise. According to a new report, the film, which is a loose adaptation of the Marvel Comics’ title of the same name, have its own TV series that will debut on Disney Channel’s sister station, Disney XD. More on the story below.

Disney made the announcement earlier today. For those that may not have seen the film, Big Hero 6 centers on a young science prodigy named Hiro Hamada, his “personal healthcare companion” robot Baymax, the speed demon Gogo, the precise neat freak, Wasabi, the bubbly Honey Lemon, and comic book nerd Fred, solve the murder of Tadashi Hamada (Hiro’s brother) and retrieve Hiro’s microbot invention after it had been stolen for evil purposes.

According to Disney will continue the story of Hiro who adjusts to being a full-time student and deals with the social challenges that come with it. Along the way, he will reteam with his friends to stop supervillains.

Big Hero 6 will be executive produced by Kim Possible creators Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley along with Kim Possible vet, Nicholas Filippi. Anyone who is familiar with that series would be happy to see their influence in such a series like Big Hero 6. In fact, Kim Possible explored similar themes to what this new series will be exploring. Plus it featured the title character as high school student who was also a super spy.

The series is expected to debut on Disney XD sometime in 2017. Much of the cast has already worked with Disney or has had voiceover experience in the past. But it is not clear if the core group of heroes, originally voiced by Scott Adsit, Ryan Potter, T. J. Miller, Jamie Chung, Damon Wayans, Jr., and Génesis Rodríguez, have been offered to return to reprise their roles.

Big Hero 6 is currently under production and is expected to make its TV debut on Disney XD in 2017.
