Daisy Ridley In The Mix To Play Lara Croft In ‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot
  |  @   |

Newcomer Daisy Ridley exploded onto the scene when she commanded the screen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The actress was universally praised for her role in that film, and with such a stellar performance, she was bound to receive many offers to star in other films.

Seeing as she can carry the weight of one franchise on her shoulders, it looks like she is in the running to play the lead character in the new Tomb Raider reboot. More on the story below.

Deadline cautions that there are conversations but no offers have been made as of yet. They add that producers are keeping their options open. Seeing how Ridley might be wrapped up with two more Star Wars films, Episode VIII is currently shooting, and she could jump right into filming Episode IX right after she is done with her press obligations for Episode VIII. The site doesn’t mention any other names that WB and MGM are interested in.

For those who may not remember, Tomb Raider is based on a series of video games featuring Lara Croft, an experienced archaeologist who travels the globe searching for lost artifacts and infiltrating dangerous tombs and ruins. The games shared the same tone as the Indiana Jones films in terms of action and adventure. Eventually, the video game was adapted into two films, for which Angelina Jolie starred in both.

As for the video game itself, the title launched back in 1996 and most recently got a reboot itself. There is also an animated series as well as comic books.

Ridley was a virtual unknown before she starred in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But she has proven that recognition doesn’t really matter as she captured the world’s attention in that film. So it comes as no surprise that offers are knocking at her doorstep. Although, Rey and Lara Croft as similar in some ways in terms of searching dangerous ruins and having to deal with equally dangerous people.

But with WB and MGM looking at Daisy Ridley as a possibility, we get a sense of what kind of character they want in the film. Which is a young and strong female who isn’t the least bit afraid to get cut. So it should be interesting to see who else the studios are looking at. No doubt the game’s reboot series had some influence on that. We’ll keep you posted should new developments come up.

  1. I’d still love to see Haley Atwell for the role. Great actress as well, and she, well, “fits” the character better.
