Leonardo DiCaprio and J.J. Abrams May Team Up For ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’
  |  @   |

Leonardo DiCaprio is hot off his best actor Academy Award win for his performance in The Revenant, while director J.J. Abrams sold the entire world with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and now this weekend’s 10 Cloverfield Lane, the film he produced that’s a “blood relative” Cloverfield. The A-listers have not worked together in any film capacity. Until now. There is a new report that says the two will unite for a movie adaptation of David Grann‘s new nonfiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: An American Crime and the Birth of the FBI.

Check out the full story here below.

The Wrap says Forest Gump scribe Eric Roth will be the one responsible for adapting the book into a novel. The report adds that the project was one of the hottest on the market, with the script being auctioned at the price of a reported $2 million. Sony made a higher offer, and even had the backing of Amy Pascal and George Clooney, but it looks as though a DiCaprio and Abrams team-up is way too good to pass up.

For now nothing is confirmed. But if by any chance Paramount does land the rights to the book, DiCaprio and Abrams would at least produce Killers of the Flower Moon under their respective banners, Appian Way and Bad Robot. Obviously, the hope is that DiCaprio will star and Abrams will direct. If the latter does end up directing, it will be something that is outside of his wheelhouse, considering he likes to play with the mystery box so much.

Grann is known for his work over at The New Yorker. Killers of the Flower Moon is a nonfiction novel that chronicles the mysterious murders of the Osage Indians tribe in Oklahoma, where oil sat rich beneath their land. The case went unresolved until it was transferred to the then newly formed FBI. The story itself covers social and environmental issues, which may explain why DiCaprio is circling the project. The author was also behind bestseller The Lost City of Z, the film adaptation of which is due to finally arrive in theaters later this year.

We’ll keep you up to date on any developments as they come in.
