‘Star Trek Beyond’ Enters Reshoots; Adds ’24’ Actress Shohreh Aghdashloo
  |  @   |

Reshoots are not out of the ordinary for any film that has completed principal photography. But when it takes place four months before the release of a film, then some might question why it is being done so late. The Justin Lin-directed Star Trek Beyond is about to go into reshoots, almost four months before the film’s release. But there may be a slight upside to this, depending on how you look at it of course.

Also, it looks like 24 actress Shohreh Aghdashloo will now be joining the cast. More on the story below.

Deadline was the first to report on the reshoot story; however, they could not indicate why Star Trek Beyond would be going into this stage this late. Reshoots are as normal as they come, but when it happens four months before a film’s scheduled release, it tells us that something isn’t working. We’ve still only seen one teaser, and most would agree it didn’t look like the Star Trek sequel that “would capture the spirit of the show” and explore new worlds as promised to us by Lin and co-writer Simon Pegg. In fact, it looked more like something you would see in a Fast and Furious film. Pegg admitted that he himself didn’t like the trailer, and said there was a lot more that we weren’t seeing.

That being said, it would have been interesting to see what wasn’t working with test audiences. And we have yet to see a full-length trailer that will hopefully deliver on story, character, and most importantly, “Star Trek stuff.” The next trailer should hopefully reassure fans and moviegoers that Star Trek Beyond isn’t a reflection of the teaser.

As for Aghdashloo, who starred as Dr. Kavita Rao in X-Men: The Last Stand, she will play the High Command of the Federation. As for the size of this role, that is unclear. The report also doesn’t mention if she is replacing a character or is actually a new addition. In any case, a last-minute addition may be a cause for concern to some.

Lin has carried the weight of the Fast and Furious franchise for four solid films, almost all of them being hits at the box office. So this isn’t the first time that he has set foot into a franchise that already had a few films under its belt. Hopefully, he can fix some of the issues. While these reshoots can have a few people worried, Paramount is still sticking to their July 22, 2016, release.
