Jeremy Renner Is Open To The Idea Of A Hawkeye Series On Netflix
  |  @   |

The Punisher is the latest Marvel character to be introduced into the MCU in Netflix’s Daredevil. And no doubt there will be a few more new characters introduced in three of the other series that the streaming site has planned. While everyone’s wish to have the MCU truly connect to the TV universe probably won’t happen anytime soon, there is one actor who is down for having his character have his own Netflix series. No, it’s not one of the A-list heroes, but rather a supporting one who really has yet to make his presence known.

Jeremy Renner, who has played Hawkeye in Thor, The Avengers, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, says “if there’s ever a way to explore the character, maybe it’s in that world.” More on the story below.

ComicBook.com was able to grab the quote while the actor was at the Silicon Valley Comic-Con. It was there that he was asked if he was interested in Hawkeye Netflix series that would mirror Daredevil:

“I think that’s actually a really great model, if there’s ever a way to explore the character, maybe it’s in that world. These are things that are really not in my control, but I’d be open to it. I’ve really enjoyed getting to explore the character more recently. The Netflix model is where all the character drama goes to now, you’re doing a superhero movie or a Netflix or HBO kind of model. So I’d be open to it. Not up to me, though.”

While the actor is open to the idea, he admits that he doesn’t have the power to greenlight the project. However, during the early stages of developing the MCU, there was talk of having a film centered on Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Nick Fury. Obviously, that never came to fruition, and the idea was turned into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Still, it’s as Renner said, if Marvel ever wanted to explore Hawkeye in greater depth, the best possible format would be in a binge-watching 13 episode season on Netflix.

However, the MCU isn’t as connected to its TV universe as we would like to think. Meaning there are certain characters that the TV universe can’t use only because they are being reserved for the cinematic universe, and certain MacGuffins in the film universe can’t be used in the TV universe. Still, there may be other stories to explore. In The Avengers, Black Widow teased that the chitauri invasion was like their mission in Budapest, to which Hawkeye chimed “You and I remember Budapest very differently.” So maybe if Netflix and Marvel were willing to work out some sort of deal between Renner and Scarlett Johansson for a one-season stint, then maybe we will finally find out to explore what happened between Hawkeye and Black Widow in Budapest.
