There were few recent films that were genuinely able to capture the essence of fright and scares like James Wan‘s The Conjuring. The director proved that jump scares weren’t necessary, and was able to build tension with precision. Now he’s back to follow that up with The Conjuring 2, with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprising their roles as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. However, the sequel will take them across the pond all the way to England where they will have to face what is described as England’s Amityville.

The Conjuring is already a hard act to follow, and horror sequels aren’t as well received as their predecessors. Still, Wan seems to know what he is doing for the sequel as it still feels terrifying to watch. The film isn’t due out until later this summer, so there is no telling if it can replicate that same magical success that the first film found. But if it can, you can be sure that WB will want some more Conjuring in the future.

In the film a single mom and her family is terrorized by malicious spirits. Frances O’Connor (The Missing, A.I.) stars as Peggy Hodgson, the single mom; Madison Wolfe (Joy, Trumbo) and newcomers Lauren Esposito, Patrick McAuley, and Benjamin Haigh will play the Hodgson children. Maria Doyle Kennedy (Orphan Black, Downton Abbey), Simon Delaney (Begin Again, Delivery Man), Franka Potente (The Bridge, American Horror Story: Asylum), and Simon McBurney (Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation, The Theory Of Everything) also star.

Carey Hayes and Chad Hayes with rewrites from David Leslie Johnson penned the script. The Conjuring 2 arrives in theaters on June 10, 2016.
