‘Despicable Me 3’: ‘South Park’ Co-Creator Trey Parker To Voice Villain

In addition to the announcement that Sherlock and The Hobbit star Benedict Cumberbatch would be voicing the Grinch in a new animated take on How the Grinch Stole Christmas from the makers of Minions and the upcoming Secret Life of Pets, Illumination Entertainment also covered the trilogy-maker in the franchise that put them on the map, Despicable Me, during their CinemaCon presentation.

Despicable Me 3 is scheduled to be released on June 30, 2017, just a handful of months before the release of the above mentioned new take on The Grinch. But it’s a very interesting casting announcement that’s grabbing the headlines. Trey Parker, who co-created South Park with Matt Stone and provides the voices for many of the hit animated show’s characters such as Eric Cartman and Stan Marsh, is set to voice the third installment’s villain.

The villain Parker is voicing goes by the name Balthazar Bratt, and he is a former child pop star from the ’80s who is now a has been who’s clearly stuck in the time he was popular, as you can see in the image below.

Believe it or not, this will be the very first time Parker has taken on a voice acting role that’s not his own project such as South Park or Team America: World Police.

Along with the announcement that Parker will be voicing the villain in Despicable Me 3, it was also revealed that the main character Gru, voiced by Steve Carell, will meet his long-lost twin brother in the sequel, who is named Dru. Carell will also voice this character, who is the opposite of Gru, with a head full of hair and wearing all white (as opposed to the bald Gru wearing all black) in concept art that was shown, which is a bit of a nod to Spy vs. Spy.
