Geek Peek: First Images Of ‘The Magnificent Seven’ Starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt Released
  |  @   |

Last week, CinemaCon attendees were treated to the first look at the Antoine Fuqua-directed remake of The Magnificent Seven. The original film was released back in 1960, and starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Eli Wallach, and James Coburn. Such legendary actors gathering together for a great film, its reimagining would at least have to match that all-star caliber. And as such, it was announced that Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Byung-hun Lee would be starring in the film. With names like that, it looks like they got the job done on paper at least.

Now Sony has released the first official set of images of the cast in their western getups, and plans on releasing the first trailer tomorrow. Check out the images below.

While the film itself is a remake of 1960’s The Magnificent Seven, that film is actually a remake of Seven Samurai which was released back in 1954. The premise of all these films hasn’t really changed. A town overrun by ruthless bandits seek the protection and hires seven gunslingers of their own, each with a different set of skills.

This is Washington’s first role in a western film. He plays the lead role that Brynner played in the ’60s film. The film also marks a reunion of sorts for Washington, Hawke, and Fuqua as the three previously worked together in 2001’s Training Day. Washington also reteamed with the director for the reimagining of The Equalizer.

As for the very diverse supporting cast, Pratt plays the charming gambler Josh Farraday; Hawke is Goodnight Robicheaux, a sharpshooter; D’Onofrio is a trapper named Jack Horne; Lee is the deadly assassin Billy Rocks, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo is Vasquez, an outlaw; and Martin Sensmeier is Red Harvest, a Comanche warrior. That diversity was important for Fuqua.

Peter Saarsgard also stars as the film’s primary antagonist.

As aforementioned, the first trailer for The Magnificent Seven drops tomorrow. The film is set to ride into theaters on September 23, 2016. Until then you can check out the gallery of images right below.
