The Girl On The Train

Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures have released the first trailer for The Girl on the Train. Directed by Tate Taylor (The Help), the film adaptation is based on the bestselling novel by Paula Hawkins. Emily Blunt stars as an alcoholic divorcee who fantasizes about the young couple she sees every day on the daily commute aboard a train. But when she sees something she isn’t supposed to, she reports it to the police only to have her testimony come into question because of her alcoholism.

Check out the full trailer below.

Now when first watching this trailer, you might see that it bears a strong resemblance to David Fincher’s adaptation of Gone Girl. Blunt plays a rather unreliable witness due to the fact that she is an alcoholic and the “gone girl” has a connection to her ex-husband (Justin Theroux). Allison Janney plays the relentless detective to badgers Blunt’s character for answers while Luke Evans and Hayley Bennett play the couple that Blunt sees on her daily commute.

Despite those similarities, we will get to see Blunt in a brand new role, one that will show the kind of range she has as an actress. Last year she starred the critically praised Sicario, where she played a drug enforcement agent. In the past she has appeared in comedies and appeared in Disney’s film adaptation of the musical Into The Woods.

This is also a bit of a departure for Taylor whose credits include The Help and Get On Up.

The film also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Edgar Ramirez, Laura Prepon and Lisa Kudrow.

The Girl on the Train opens in theaters on October 7, 2016

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux, Luke Evans, Allison Janney, Edgar Ramirez, Lisa Kudrow and Laura Prepon star in DreamWorks Pictures’ The Girl on the Train, from director Tate Taylor (The Help, Get on Up) and producer Marc Platt (Bridge of Spies, Into the Woods).

In the thriller, Rachel (Blunt), who is devastated by her recent divorce, spends her daily commute fantasizing about the seemingly perfect couple who live in a house that her train passes every day, until one morning she sees something shocking happen there and becomes entangled in the mystery that unfolds.

Based on Paula Hawkins’ bestselling novel, The Girl on the Train is adapted for the screen by Erin Cressida Wilson and Taylor. The film’s executive producers are Jared LeBoff and Celia Costas, and it will be released by Universal Pictures.
