Last week on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, our heroes hid out in 1871, the Old West, much to Ray’s (Brandon Routh) glee. They were all having a bit of fun until the requisite bar fight, where they were saved by Jonah Hex (Jonathan Schaech), who also happenned to be an old frenemy of Rip’s (Arthur Darvill). The town was being terroroized by the Stillwater gang, and the legends wanted to put a stop to it. Rip resisted but then stepped up once Jax (Franz Drameh) got taken. Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee) met an old version of herself. Stein (Victor Garber) saved the life of a child, H.G. Wells, who was obviously influenced by the futuristic battle that takes place in front of everyone once the Time Masters showed up.

Spoilers below.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow 1.12 “Last Refuge” review: The Time Masters have set The Pilgrim after our gang. She is tasked with killing their younger selves in order to eliminate them. The first person she almost gets is Mick (Dominic Purcell).

“Come with me if you want to live,” says Ray with the grin.

Next target is 2007 Starling City, where Captain Lance (Paul Blackthorne, with hair) has Sara (Caity Lotz) at the station for “take your daughter to work day.” Sara and Mick beat the crap out of The Pilgrim and set her on fire (in that order).

Ray starts internally bleeding when the Pilgrim starts attacking him in 2014. Kendra is so worried she tells him she wants to spend the rest of their lives together – instant engagement. She confides in Sara, and Ray overhears the whole thing, shaken. But he is such an honorable guy, he gives her an out. She tells him about meeting 1871 Kendra.

Their timetable just got pushed. They go to kidnap Snart as a newborn in 1972, Stein in 1950, and Jax in 1993. They are advised not to be the one that kidnaps themselves. But Stein sees Jax’s dad at the hospital, and to hear Jax tell it, his father wasn’t there. So he went to go get him. We all got the feels, and I’m glad because before this, Jax was not that compelling a character. He is so torn up.

They take all the kids to an orphanage – Rip’s childhood home, a place where. Mick gives himself a talk.

The Pilgrim is so pissed, she kidnaps their loved ones.

Rip offers up his younger self in trade, who turns out to be the fiercest. They all attack her, but it’s little Rip who saves the day. She is incinerated.

Jax warns his dad of the date of his death. He expects a lecture from Rip, but is unexpectedly supported. The relatives are given amnesia pills.

Rip warns that time is beginning to set – that they will be erased from history if they don’t return their younger selves soon.

They decide to go to the future to get rid of Vandal Savage (Casper Crump), even though it is the most dangerous time… because they’re out of time.

I was constantly surprised this episode. Last week’s was super fun, and this week’s was equally as good. I’m looking forward to them showing us the future effects of recent actions.

Time travel has always been fascinating. When The Flash does it, it creates different versions of reality. LoT is way more complicated with Rip as the speaker of the rules. I sometimes can’t wrap my head around all the time travel rules. LoT is so much fun, I don’t even care.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow airs Thursday nights at 8:00pm ET on The CW.

The CW’s synopsis:

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow
Last Refuge (Ep# 112)
RIP’S BACKSTORY IS REVEALED — The team is targeted by The Pilgrim (guest star Faye Kingslee), a deadly assassin who wants to erase the Legends from the timeline by killing their younger, non-superhero selves. As a protective countermeasure, Rip (Arthur Darvill) decides Sara (Caity Lotz), Snart (Wentworth Miller), Rory (Dominic Purcell), Professor Stein (Victor Garber) and Jax (Franz Drameh) need to kidnap their past selves first before The Pilgrim gets to them. Coming face-to-face with the younger versions of themselves proves to be both a physical and emotional challenge for certain members of the team who would rather forget their past. Rip tells them he has a refuge for their precious cargo — an orphanage that raises future Time Masters and where he himself grew up. Rachel Talalay directed the episode written by Chris Fedak & Matthew Maala (#112). Original airdate 4/21/2016.
