It’s no secret that Walt Disney Studios‘ live-action adaptations of animated classics are a hit. Following the successes of films like Alice In Wonderland, Maleficent, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book, Disney has gone on to lock in more release dates for their live-action fairy tale reimaginings.

We already know that Alice Through the Looking Glass hits theaters on May 27th, Pete’s Dragon will open on August 12th, and Beauty and the Beast is scheduled for a March 17, 2017, release. However, none of the dates that Disney has set has titles attached to them. This is simpoly locking in key dates. More on the story below.

Here is the list of dates scheduled:

  • July 28, 2017: Untitled Disney Fairy Tale (Live Action) – previously dated on December 22, 2017
  • April 4, 2018: Untitled Disney Fairy Tale (Live Action)
  • August 3, 2018: Untitled Disney Live Action
  • November 2, 2018: Untitled Disney Fairy Tale (Live Action)
  • December 25, 2018: Untitled Disney Live Action
  • March 29, 2019: Untitled Disney Fairy Tale (Live Action)
  • November 8, 2019: Untitled Disney Fairy Tale (Live Action)
  • December 20, 2019: Untitled Disney Fairy Tale (Live Action)
  • Now if you noticed, that first date is moving away from what normally would be a release that is reserved for a Star Wars film. The other holiday dates for 2018 and 2019 tells us that Disney will not be releasing a Star Wars film at that time. We know that Rogue One and Episode VIII will hit theaters December 2016 and December 2017, respectively. But the untitled Han Solo spinoff and Episode IX could return to be released in the month of May has they have traditionally been for the past films. That all remains to be seen.

Another key thing to note is that most of these live-action films are straying away from the summer releases with the exception of the untitled live-action fairy tale that is set for a July 28, 2017, release. Most of the summer dates are given blockbuster tentpole titles from Marvel Studios.

Other films without the fairy tale title attached tells us we could be getting more films like Million Dollar Arm, McFarland, USA, Tomorrowland, The Finest Hours, and Queen of Katwe.

As to what these films could be, that is still unknown. Among the many live-action fairy tale reimaginings they have planned are: a film centered on Cruella from 101 Dalmations with Emma Stone in talks to play the lead villain. Ava DuVernay directing an adaptation of A Wrinkle In Time from a script written by Frozen scribe Jennifer Lee. The Dwayne Johnson starring vehicle Jungle Cruise. The live-action retelling of Dumbo, which will be directed by Tim Burton. Mary Poppins 2 which is rumored to star Emily Blunt in the lead role. Other titles with unconfirmed release dates include Maleficent 2, Winnie-The-Pooh, Tinkerbell, Mulan, The Sword In The Stone, Genie, Prince Charming, Nutcracker And The Four Realms, Rose Red, and The Jungle Book 2.
