Another actor is joining the cast of The Dark Tower, the first movie in the long in development adaptation of the Stephen King book series of the same name from Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital.

It’s being reported that Katheryn Winnick, star of The History Channel’s hit drama series Vikings, is the latest to sign on for the movie. She joins a cast that already features Idris Elba (The Jungle Book, Star Trek Beyond) and Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar), who are both set to play the Gunslinger Roland Deschain and the Man in Black.

The cast also includes Tom Taylor (Doctor Foster, Legends) as Jake Chambers, Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, Preacher) as Sayre, Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Neon Demon) as Tirana, and Fran Kranz (The Cabin in the Woods, Dollhouse) as Pimli.

It is unclear at the moment who Winnick will be playing. In addition to Vikings, the actress has starred in Killers, Love & Other Drugs, Stand Up Guys, and The Art of the Steal. She can be seen starring alongside Gerard Butler in writer and director Dean Devlin’s sci-fi thriller Geostorm early next year.

The first movie in what is hoped will become a big new franchise for Sony is based mainly on the first book in the series, titled The Gunslinger, which was adapted by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner, but will also incorporate elements from other books in the series. The movie will follow the Gunslinger as he seeks the fabled Dark Tower, while dealing with the mysterious Man in Black along the way.

The Dark Tower is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel, who also worked on the screenplay. His previous credits include directing the 2012 Academy Award nominee A Royal Affair, and writing the screenplays for Affair and 2009’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo along with Rasmus Heisterberg.

  1. OK……she might not be to some peoples’ taste, but Winnick is on my short list for hottest woman on the planet.
