Video: Behind The Scenes Look At ‘The Jungle Book’ VFX

It’s really hard to believe that the world of Jon Favreau‘s The Jungle Book was created in a soundstage in Los Angeles, CA. Though some sets are real, a majority of the surrounding environments were created on a computer. The thing is, you wouldn’t really have known it was because of the sheer detail that was put into creating that world. It took three years for the film to get made, much of it spent in an effort to perfect those details and getting everything just right. And as we have seen in recent weeks, it has certainly paid off as the film has taken the number one spot at the box office for the past two weeks.

Now we are getting a look at the bare bones of the film without all the flashy visual effects. A new video has appeared that shows us a behind-the-scenes look at the technologically complex film and what was done to bring it to the big screen. Check the video out below.

The video is a small glimpse at what it took to bring this film to life. In the video we get to hear from Favreau, who looks like he wasn’t just sitting on the director’s chair barking out orders, he was very involved in the filmmaking process.

Because only a few sets were built at the time, a lot of the running, swimming, and climbing was very small but looked longer and extended because it was digitally added. The fact that we saw Neel Sethi, the only live-action actor to be in the film, running along a carousel was surprisingly practical and ingenious rather than to have him run in place. It is actually funny to see the blue cardboard animal cutouts and tiny puppets simulating the actions of the digital ones. We also get to hear from Lupita Nyong’o. If anything, seeing Sethi being the only live actor on these sets shows us he has a long career ahead of him as it isn’t easy to be the only one on set acting against cardboard cutouts and puppets.

I’m wondering if there will be an extended version of the work that went into The Jungle Book. This video really only scratches the surface of it.

The Jungle Book is in theaters now, and we can expect to hear more about The Jungle Book 2 soon.
