Ben Affleck Solo Batman Movie Could Feature Many From The Dark Knight’s Rogue Gallery

Recent news of the DC Extended Universe doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. Following Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice‘s disappointing box office showing came word that Seth Grahame-Smith would no longer be directing The Flash, and that WB is at odds with director Zack Snyder over the vision of Justice League: Part One. These issues are causing so much of a problem, that there is worry about a disastrous ripple effect felt throughout the DCEU.

So in an effort to keep the DCEU from spiraling out of control, WB will be giving the keys to Ben Affleck to direct Batman. The actor who was one of the rare gems of BvS, had long been rumored to direct a feature solely based on The Dark Knight from a script that he and Geoff Johns would write. With all of that confirmed, there is a new rumor about the film’s villains. That’s right, plural. According to a new unconfirmed report, there is word that the untitled solo Batman feature will have most of the Caped Crusader’s Rogue Gallery.

More on the story below.

Birth.Movies.Death says despite the rumors that the film could be based on the Under The Red Hood story arc. Their sources say that in order to make “the definitive Batman film,” Affleck and Johns’ script will have many of Batman’s enemies in the film. They believe that most of these villains could be reduced to cameos, and that with the amount of villains that they want to use, it is possible that the film could be based on the Arkham Asylum games. Again, this is just a rumor, and we should take the news with a grain of salt.

Now the big concern of all of this is the casting. If anything, Suicide Squad proves that it can be done, it’s just a matter of finding the right actor who is willing to play a supporting or cameo role. Suicide Squad also uses four key characters that are often adversaries or villains to Batman: Joker, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and Killer Croc. Depending on how the story plays out, it is quite possible that these villains could break out of the asylum – again, if it is even based on the video game – and they could appear again in another Batman solo feature.

It should be interesting to see who WB would be courting to play these villains.

No word yet on when WB intends to release this film, but based on earlier rumors, would probably want to get the film out as soon as possible. With the studio recently announcing two DCEU films scheduled for October 5th, 2018, and November 1st, 2019, it’s possible that we could see Affleck don the cap and cowl once more in 2018. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any developments should they come in.
