Last week on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, the legends had to save their younger selves from The Pilgrim, an assassin sent by the Time Masters to wipe out our heroes. They successfully kidnap teenage Mick and Sara (Dominic Purcell and Caity Lotz), but Ray (Brandon Routh) almost dies when his 2014 self is horribly attacked. They grab Stein, Jax, and Snart (Victor Garber, Franz Drameh, and Wentworth Miller) as babies, and bring them to a Time Master orphanage – Rip’s (Arthur Darvill) childhood home. The Pilgrim kidnaps their family members, but the heroes prevail.
Spoilers below.
DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow 1.13 “Leviathan” review: Rip and the crew head to the only place they are sure to find Vandal Savage (Casper Crump)- in 2166.
Savage gives his Nazi speech. “Onward to victory! Onward to immortality!” They attack. One of Savage’s people was wearing Kendra’s bracelet, which gives them a hint of an idea on how to bring him down.
They meet up with the resistance, where Rip admits to Ray that no matter how many times he tried to save his family during this time, they always die. “Time wants to happen.”
It is very weird how Savage is taking out the resistance… until they see the footprints. Leviathan is a giant robot (looks like the Atom, except no Ray), who frisbees the ship.
Flashback to Kendra and Carter. He wants to train her to fight in case he dies first this time. This triggers Kendra into forming the rest of the idea (with Mick’s help). They come up with a 3-step plan:
1 – Snart and Rory kidnap Savage’s daughter. Snart tries to convince the daughter, Cass, of her father’s madness. He shows her that it was his idea to release the virus.
2 – Kendra goes to kill Savage with Carter’s mace, covered in her melted bracelet.
3 – Ray reverses his suit to become a giant – to fight a giant robot. A little Pacific Rim, anyone?
Ray gets beat down, but then with a little pep talk from Jax, punches the robot’s head off. I had thought for a second that Jax would have to control unconscious Ray in the suit, the way Oliver did when Ray was learning how to fight, which would have been really cool. That would have given Jax even more depth, showing he doesn’t have to merge with someone to be a hero. I think that was a lost opportunity.
Cassandra ends up facing her father. “You are a monster!” They are all fighting soldiers, but Kendra swoops in for Savage.
Kendra fights Savage and starts to do some damage, until a soldier pops in – it’s Carter. Savage locked his mind away. Of course she does not kill him. They end up locking him up. And now Kendra has to have “the talk” with Ray. Poor Ray – no luck with women.
Great episode. It was really exciting… this could have been the finale. I liked the Snart bonding with Cass, how confident he was that he would not need to torture her. There was a bit of flirting in there.
Does anyone else think that maybe Cassandra is either a product of Kendra incarnate and Savage (hey, if Carter has no memory, maybe she didn’t either), or even a Carter and Kendra child? That would be an interesting plot development.
I would like to see before the end of the season, some of the details of the other shows bleed into this one, especially the death of Laurel Lance.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow airs Thursday nights at 8:00pm ET on The CW.
