Last week on Gotham, Dr. Strange (BD Wong) let Azrael (James Frain) loose on the city, and he went straight for Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie). Such is the power of suggestion. In the middle of Barnes (Michael Chiklis) not believing one word out of Jim’s mouth, Azrael showed up and stuck a knife in his gut. The whole city is interested in the resurrection, especially Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor). Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) figured out the puzzle of the Arkham’s patients minds, and then found the way into the secret basement lab.

Spoilers below.

Gotham 2.20 “Unleashed” review: Bullock (Donal Logue) and Gordon go to Arkham to dig up the goods on Dr. Strange, but he shredded bunches of documents. He’s crazier than his patients. Nygma is freaking out about what he saw. I mean, if it freaks out The Riddler, it’s time to go.

Barnes is in critical condition, so Bullock rallies the GCPD to catch that maniac.

Penguin gets all dazzled up to get Galavan. He’s baaaaccckkkk!

Bruce (David Mazouz) is tired of trusting Jim Gordon. He pleads with Alfred (Sean Pertwee). “Is it your job to watch me sit on my hands and do nothing?” I don’t know. If I was Alfred, I still wouldn’t let Bruce go. he IS still just a kid.

Jim and Harvey go to Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) for help. She was on her way out to get away from Butch (Drew Powell)., who’s completely distraught over losing his girl. “That thing that stabbed your captain last night? Wasn’t my brother. Was a 300 yr-old assassin called Azrael… and he wants you.” She said the key is the sword buried with her grandfather, so she takes them there. They get the sword, but of course Azrael shows up. There’s some sibling bonding as he remembers Bruce Wayne, then he stabs her because he also remembers her betrayal. Butch is devastated at the hospital. He loves her. Penguin shows up and tells Butch they have to kill Galavan.

Bruce goes to see Selina (Camren Bicondova). He wants to break into Arkham. He tells her that Brigitte might be in there, and challenges her. She says she’s going alone. This is the side of Bruce that I don’t like. The side where he doesn’t care if he puts other people in danger, as long as he stays with the mission. She sneaks in via delivery truck, then scales a couple walls – no big deal. She’s traveling through the vent and runs into Nygma. Yes… in the vent. He helps her find the way in and she helps him find the way out. She overhears Strange and his sidekick, and sees some “strange” patients.

Bruce and Alfred try to secure the house, after Jim calls with a warning. Galavan shows up. Cue Alfred’s sword fighting skills. After he gets thrown through the window, it’s Bruce’s turn. So Bruce hits him with a car. That doesn’t work, and just as he is about to kill Bruce… Jim shows up and shoots him up a few times. Galavan pulls a “Jason Voorhees” and gets up again.

Guess who shows up now?

Mouths open – Alfred, Bruce, Jim, and mine. You will not believe this explosive ending.

And then you will not believe what happens when Selina is reunited with Firefly.

The entire episode was interesting, and funny, and well-written, and well-acted… but the payoff was the end when I jumped up with a wtf?!?!?

Two episodes left and Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith) will be in one of them.

Gotham airs Monday nights at 8:00pm ET on FOX.
