Ben Affleck The Accountant trailer header

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for The Accountant starring Ben Affleck. Directed by Gavin O’Connor (Warrior), the film centers on Christian Wolff, an accountant who also freelances for criminal organizations. His work has caught the attention of the FBI, who wants to take him down but has trouble doing so due to his ability to cover his tracks. J.K. Simmons plays the man who leads the FBI task force to take down Wolff. Anna Kendrick plays Wolff’s accounting clerk, who seems to be unaware of all of his actions going on under the table.

Check out the trailer here below.

When did it become normal for a trailer to begin with a snippet of the actual trailer itself? It looks like it is becoming more commonplace just to have what would have been the teaser for the teaser and add that at the very beginning of the actual teaser or trailer.

As for the footage itself, there is a suspense and tension that builds in part to the use Radiohead’s “Everything in its Right Place,” pairing well with the trailer’s repetitive beats. The fact that Wolff is cold and silent throughout the trailer also adds to that tension. We see glimpses of what shaped Wolff to become the man that he is through the brief childhood exposition.

O’Connor is known for his directing work in Miracle, Warrior, and most recently Jane Got A Gun.

The film also stars Jon Bernthal, Jean Smart, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Lithgow.

The Accountant opens in limited theaters on September 23, 2016, and expands on October 14, 2016.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. With the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons), starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise.
