Last week on The Last Man On Earth, the gang had a reason to celebrate as Carol (Kristen Schaal) found out she is pregnant, and Tandy (Will Forte) is the father. Hooray! Mike and Erica (Jason Sudeikis and Cleopatra Coleman)started getting closer. Pre-virus Erica was a thief and a con, but that doesn’t matter to Mike. Gail (Mary Steenburgen) saw a drone, but everyone else thinks Gail has hit the bottle too often (not untrue). Mike started coughing up blood, and everyone started freaking out about the virus, so he ran away.
Spoilers below.
The Last Man On Earth 2.18 “30 Years Of Science Down The Tubes” (Finale) review: Phil is off to find his brother, after weirdly almost-explaining the birds and the bees to his fetus. He sets off for the only place Mike could have gone… in a DeLorean… to the BTTF theme song… to Tucson.
Everybody sees the drone now, so Gail can commence drinking. But Melissa (January Jones) shoots it.
Mike plays dead – burn. Then, as they were going through memory boxes in the attic, he totally ruined Phil’s 30-year fart experiment. Phil wants to stay with Mike until he recovers. They finally get some honesty, and Mike fixes Phil’s hair and beard to the tune of “Falling Softly.” They visit the 3 gravestones of their parents and Mike. Mike makes a decision. It’s his dying wish that Phil goes back. Phil presents Mike with all his ball friends so he won’t be alone.
Melissa almost accidentally shoots Carol. “This world can’t suck. I won’t stand for it,” says Carol. She still has to get in the stocks as punishment.
Tandy comes home all sad, but the promise of a good future comes in the form of the baby cow.
But then… crazy Mark Boone Junior and 2 friends set out for Malibu with guns. They are in big trouble. We knew he was still running around out there though, and was bound to come back on the show.
The finale was a nice little combo of sweet and silly – the perfect formula for this show. This season has had some of the episodes that made me uncomfortable, ones where Tandy is fully fake and then being abused, but the brother dying storyline struck the right nerve. I also like Melissa being the unhinged one, because that’s unusual.
This was a nice little season that I enjoyed more than the first. Jason Sudeikis was a great add, and I really hope Mike doesn’t die!

Thanks for the Good episode. It’s intriguing that, Mike began hacking up blood, and everybody began going crazy about the infection. Happy they exited Mike’s destiny to some degree open finished; I have an inclination we’ll see him once more.

Good episode – hate having to wait so long for the next one. Glad they left Mike’s fate somewhat open ended; I have a feeling we’ll see him again.
