Warner Bros. Considering A Harley Quinn Movie Starring Margot Robbie
  |  @   |

Despite the rumors that Suicide Squad went through some last-minute reshoots to make the film funnier, it still looks like something people have more confidence in than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Based on the trailers alone, most would agree that Margot Robbie provides plenty of scene-stealing moments as Harley Quinn, and it looks like Warner Bros. agrees, as they are now considering a spinoff film based on the character with the actress most likely reprising her role.

With Suicide Squad just a few more months away from release, there are new reports that say the spinoff would be much more than a solo feature. Find out more on the story here below.

THR says that in addition to starring in the spinoff film, Robbie would also act as a producer. However, the film wouldn’t just be a solo feature centered on Harley Quinn; instead, it would be yet another ensemble film that would “focus on several of DC’s female heroes and villains.”

Obviously, it is too early to tell what a new film could be about or reveal any plot details, but names such as Batgirl and Birds of Prey have surfaced. Again, it’s too early to confirm anything, and WB has yet to comment on the news.

Harley Quinn first appeared in 1992’s Batman The Animated series, where she was often paired up with the Joker. But she also did odd jobs with other members of Batman’s Rogue Gallery like Poison Ivy. The character is a fan-favorite of DC Comics and made a more than surprising jump in popularity and has become much more than a sidekick. She now has appeared in other DC-related animated series as well as comic books. Suicide Squad would mark the first time the character has appeared on film.

She is best known for starting out as Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel, an M.D. and Arkham Asylum psychiatrist who eventually falls for the Joker and becomes his accomplice and on-again/off-again sidekick despite being constantly berated and abused by him.

According to the report, it was Robbie who was the force behind the project and that when she got the part for the role in Suicide Squad, she dove deep into the character by reading more comic books. She also brought in a mysterious screenwriter to help develop the project, and the script was soon handed over to WB. This writer has yet to be revealed.

Suicide Squad seems to be the course correction WB needs for the DCEU to be fixed after Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice got less than warm receptions by critics. Those last-minute reshoots to make the film funnier are a sign that the studio is now taking some of those criticisms to account.

Suicide Squad opens in theaters on August 5, 2016.
