Last week on Arrow, nuclear weapons started readying for a strike, seemingly on their own. Rubicon had started “Genesis.” Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) realized she needed her father Noah (Tom Amandes), the Calculator, to hack into the unhackable system. Darhk (Neal McDonough) realized that too, and it was a race for him. Oliver, Diggle, and Felicity (Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, and Rickards) won, and the computer geniuses were able to stop all but one missile for a 24-hour period (after Felicity got fired and they stole stuff – in that order). Lance (Paul Blackthorne) will also probably get fired for being honest about the Black Canary. Lonnie Machim (Alexander Calvert) showed up at the ark for revenge against Darhk. He tried to get Thea (Willa Holland) to stop being a follower. She kicked his ass (to Alex’s detriment).

Spoilers below.

Arrow 4.22 “Lost In The Flood” review: Arrows and bullets don’t even come near Darhk. He’s off to get Rubicon back online. A nuclear bomb has already killed tens of thousands at Havenrock.

Alex really is dead? That sucks. Thea has THE worst luck in men. Her father and goons tie her to a chair.

Curtis meets Felicity’s dad and geeks out (it must be Wednesday). She fills him in. “You make so much sense now,” says Curtis.

Darhk brings in Felicity’s hacker ex Cooper (remember Goth girl?), whom Darhk broke out of jail to get Rubicon back.

Thea slips a text to Felicity. Oliver and Diggle go after her.

Merlyn (John Barrowman) drugs Thea into compliance. Arrow and Diggle get in, and Ruvé tells Merlyn to handle it. Oliver rescues Thea and she pulls a gun on him. Brainwash pills! She calls it in and there’s the usual fightingMerlyn shows up and they banter and they escape. Mrs. Darhk sets the citizens on him. They end up holed up inside a house. Those citizens explain that the city and the vigilantes let them down.

Donna Smoak (Charlotte Ross) is unhappily reunited with her ex, and when she doesn’t believe her daughter is a hero, she confesses that she works with the Green Arrow. They keep fighting.

Felicity fights hacker ex. He sends surges, and the power of three returns a super surge right back at him, and they win. Father-daughter bonding ensues, and Donna is not too happy. But it’s time to return a confession. Donna was the one who took Felicity and left, not the other way around.

Thea finds Oliver and they fight. He “Rocky” speeches her out of the drug control, and instead she threatens to kill her father… again.

Just then… Machim comes on the TV. He’s gonna kill Ruvé Darhk (Janet Kidder) and/or the Darhk kid, plus blow up the happy community. Oliver makes Malcolm evacuate the people.

Ruvé is a looney tune, but a brave one, and threatens Machim. “Did I leave you with the impression that I was a rational guy?”

Three seconds later, the heroes confront Machim. Anarky: “That’s my mommy. Isn’t she pretty?” The place starts to blow. Machim stabs Ruvé. Her dying wish to Oliver is that he saves her daughter. He promises and they do. It’s just a big old crater now.

Donna tells Noah to leave because he’s still dangerous. “If you care about her, you will walk away.” Maybe that’s true, but Felicity has been disappointed by enough men.

Darhk has nothing left to live for and wants the world to burn.

First I have to say – I’m sorry. I love Anarky. He’s so crazy and funny. I know he’s probably going to die soon (or… I’ll take a redemption story, Arrow Writers), but I really enjoy what he says, what he does, and his relationship with Thea. She was not too cut up about Alex anyway.

There was a flashback continuation story, and it was interesting at points, but the present-day is way more interesting. It’s probably because we have no real connection to any of those characters except Oliver, and we already have the more evolved version of him.

Good episode that tied a lot of pieces together, yet left it open for Darhk to pull something crazy. I really hope they tie in Lian Yu or I might be mad. I’m happy to see Oliver and Felicity getting closer, and I really like Arrow using more comedy in the forms of Donna and Curtis.

The Arrow 4th season finale airs next Wednesday, May 25th at 8:00pm ET on The CW.
