HBO's Westworld

Last summer we got our first peek at Westworld, the new series HBO is hoping will become their next big thing, in the form of a quick 30-second teaser filled with a bunch of intriguing and sometimes unsettling imagery.

Now HBO has released the first real trailer for the show. It’s also a teaser, but runs about a minute and a half and shows much more of this oh so very strange world.

Continue below to read more about Westworld and watch the new trailer.

SYNOPSIS:

The one-hour drama series Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

The cast of the 10-episode series includes Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Jimmi Simpson, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Simon Quarterman, Angela Sarafyan, Luke Hemsworth and Clifton Collins, Jr.

Inspired by the motion picture “Westworld,” written and directed by Michael Crichton. Production companies, Bad Robot Productions, Jerry Weintraub Productions and Kilter Films in association with Warner Bros. Television. Executive producer/writer/director, Jonathan Nolan; executive producer/writer, Lisa Joy; executive producers, J.J. Abrams, Jerry Weintraub, Bryan Burk.

If the show sticks closely to the 1973 movie of the same name that it’s based on, which was directed by Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton and starred Yul Brynner—that is, if it’s set in a theme park that’s filled with robots that recreate different time periods such as the old west, Roman times, and medieval times—HBO could have a semi-futuristic sci-fi, the western they had in fan-favorite Deadwood (which might be returning at some point), the Roman setting they had in the incredible but far too short-lived Rome, and the medieval swords and shields action we get on Game of Thrones all mixed up together in one series. At the moment all we’ve seen is the old west, but if there’s more or they add the others in future seasons it could be a very interesting sandbox to play in for the cast and crew making the series.

Westworld is set to premiere this fall.
