Ansel Elgort In Talks For New ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Movie
  |  @   |

A new movie based on the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons is still on the way from Warner Brothers, and now the studio has found an actor to star in it.

It’s being reported that 22-year-old Ansel Elgort has entered into early talks to star in the movie, which is described as “a fantasy adventure centering on a warrior and his band of mystical creatures as they embark on a dangerous journey to find a mythical treasure.” Elgort’s previous credits include the 2013 Carrie remake, Divergent and its sequels Insurgent and Allegiant, The Fault in Our Stars, and Men, Women & Children.

The new cinematic take on the property had been delayed for a while due to a legal battle over the rights, but that was all sorted out almost one year ago now. At the time of the settlement, Warner Brothers’ Creative Development and Worldwide Production president Greg Silverman said:

“We are so excited about bringing the world of Dungeons & Dragons to life on the big screen. This is far and away the most well-known brand in fantasy, which is the genre that drives the most passionate film followings. D&D has endless creative possibilities, giving our filmmakers immense opportunities to delight and thrill both fans and moviegoers new to the property.”

The movie is set to be directed by Rob Letterman, whose previous credits include Shark Tale, Monsters vs. Aliens, Gulliver’s Travels, and Goosebumps. The screenplay is written by David Leslie Johnson, who has previously worked on the screenplays for Orphan, Wrath of the Titans, The Conjuring 2, Aquaman, episodes of The Walking Dead, and a possible new Nightmare on Elm Street reboot.

Elgort can next be seen in upcoming projects November Criminals alongside Carrie co-star Chloe Grace Moretz, Catherine Keener, and David Strathairn; Billionaire Boys Club with Taron Egerton, Emma Roberts, and Kevin Spacey; Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver; and the final installment of The Divergent Series, titled Ascendant. He was also one of the thousands of young actors who auditioned for the highly coveted role of a young Han Solo in the untitled Star Wars spinoff prequel.
