‘Lost In Space’ Reboot Coming To Netflix

Netflix has announced that a reboot of Irwin Allen’s hit ’60s science fiction TV series Lost in Space will be coming to the streaming service in the future.

Netflix has ordered a 10 episode first season of the Legendary TV series, which, like the original, will follow the Robinson family as they try to survive while being stranded on a planet that is light years away from their intended destination. The show is described as “equal parts family drama and sci-fi adventure, it is a survival story for the ages.”

Netflix Vice President of Original Content Cindy Holland had this to say about the announcement:

“The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience. The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world.”

The Lost in Space reboot comes from writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the writing duo who have worked on the screenplays for Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter, Gods of Egypt, and the new Power Rangers. Emmy nominee Neil Marshall, who directed Dog Soldiers, The Descent, Doomsday, Centurion, and more recently episodes of TV series Black Sails (“I,” “III”), Game of Thrones (“Blackwater,” “The Watchers on the Wall”), Constantine (“Non Est Asylum,” “Rage of Caliban”), and Hannibal (“The Great Red Dragon”), is set to direct multiple episodes.

Zack Estrin is set to handle showrunner duties. Estrin previously wrote and executive produced episodes of shows like Charmed, Tru Calling, Point Pleasant, Prison Break, No Ordinary Family, The River, Zero Hour, and The Whispers. He also created, wrote, and executive produced the Once Upon a Time spinoff Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.

Executive producing alongside Sazama, Sharpless, and Estrin is Synthesis Entertainment’s Kevin Burns (The Curse of Oak Island, Ancient Aliens) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Pacific Rim), and Applebox’s Marshall and Marc Helwig.

The first season of Lost in Space is planned to arrive on Netflix sometime in 2018.
