Felicity Jones in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Disney released the first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story a few months back, and it really set the tone for the spinoff. Despite some of the controversy surrounding it, director Gareth Edwards and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy have assured everyone that the film will be up to everyone’s expectations and that the ground war theme will still be there as they promised.

With Star Wars Celebration coming, we can probably expect to see some new footage and even a new trailer. It is just something that comes with these conventions. Normally these trailers can only be seen at the conventions and are leaked online. However, it appears that everyone will be able to get to see the new trailer for Rogue One. More on the story below.

Making Star Wars was the first to find out that fans will be able to see the new trailer when they noticed that it would be attached to Secrets of the Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey, an hour-long special that will air on ABC. A specific detail that stood out was that the trailer will run at three minutes.

Now Star Wars Celebration will take place in London at the same time, so it only makes sense that they would get first dibs. The Rogue One panel will start at 16:00 – that’s four in the afternoon here, which means people here in the states will hear about it on social media around 11 am (est) and 8 am (pst).

As to what we could see, that isn’t clear. Director Gareth Edwards is expected to finish the reshoots just before the start of Celebration. However, much of those reshoots have to do with “clarity and character development” more so than the action trailer shots that you would expect to see.

It should be interesting to see if we will get to hear more of James Earl Jones as Darth Vader. Other things we should hope to see in the trailer include more on the supporting characters that will aid Jyn Erso on her mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, more of that ground war tone that we’ve been hearing so much about and the Deathtroopers. Hopefully, Edwards and Kennedy will talk about the opening crawl and confirm if it will or will not make an appearance and if there is any truth to the fact that Han Solo will make a cameo. Some have hoped that the first spinoff/standalone film would do something to separate itself from the saga films, and hopefully the panel will put those concerns to rest, one way or another.

But if you cannot wait, you can always check out the teaser trailer, which probably will not be able to hold you over since if you are like any Star Wars fan, has already watched it thousands of times.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story stars Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn, Mads Mikkelsen, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, and Genevieve O’Reilly. It opens in theaters on December 16, 2016.
