‘Blood Father’ Trailer: Mel Gibson Does His Best Impression Of Liam Neeson In ‘Taken’
  |  @   |

It is only natural that a father would come to the defense of his daughter, and it’s only appropriate to see to the lengths which that father will go to defend his daughter be a bit exaggerated in film format. You know, to keep you entertained and such. So after Liam Neeson did it for three films in the Taken franchise, why not explore that narrative once more. But this time with a bit of a new story and new actors.

That’s what you are going to get with Blood Father starring Mel Gibson. In the film, he plays a father who must now protect his estranged daughter from a dangerous drug cartel and his thugs. Check out the trailer below.

The story may have been rehashed, retold, and recycled many times before this or Taken, but if there is one thing to look forward to, it’s a bit more of Gibson, who has stayed away from the film industry only doing a very few at a time.

But Blood Father looks like just the kind of thing that could be Gibson’s redemption. The actor plays the gritty one-man army that you would probably see in a pulp movie. He’s a drunk and a low-life, but doesn’t let any of that weigh him down as he fights a drug cartel (Diego Luna) and his army.

The problem with this trailer is that it reveals an awful lot. Perhaps it can’t be helped, and hopefully, there is just enough film to keep us genuinely entertained and surprised.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

After her drug kingpin boyfriend frames her for stealing a fortune in cartel cash, 18 year old Lydia goes on the run, with only one ally in this whole wide world: her perennial screw-up of a dad, John Link, who’s been a drunk, a drug addict, a motorcycle outlaw, and a convict in his time, and now is determined to keep his little girl from harm and, for once in his life, do the right thing”¦

The film also stars William H. Macy, Michael Parks, and Erin Moriarty.

Based on Peter Craig‘s book of the same name, Blood Father is directed by Jean-François Richet (Assault on Precinct 13). The film hits theaters in the US on August 12.
