Goat starring Nick Jonas

Okay, the title may sound like a joke at first, but Hell Week is a very serious thing and after watching the new trailer for Goat, it’s hard to believe that someone like Nick Jonas could force a fresh frat brother to go through the pains of any sort of acts of humiliation or degradation. But that’s what we get to see in Andrew Neel‘s new film, which was a hit at Sundance earlier this year.

Now that it has made its festival run, the film is getting ready for a theatrical release. Check out the trailer for Goat below.

Now, the youngest of the Jonas brothers being an actor may sound like something that would not be taken seriously. But consider this. He is starring alongside Frank Grillo (Captain America: Civil War, The Purge: Election Year) in Kingdom, and has a role in Scream Queens. It is certainly a welcomed unexpected surprise.

In the film, Jonas plays Bret Land who promises his younger brother Brad (Ben Schnetzer), who was recently a victim of a brutal assault, that his frat will protect and accept him. While he had his reservations, Brad accepts the offer only to find out that it comes at a cost. He has to survive a brutal week-long event known as Hell Week. To make things worse, James Franco plays an alum who cannot let go of his frat boy days and proceeds to participate in Hell Week.

The trailer appeared on MTV.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Reeling from a terrifying assault over the summer, 19-year-old Brad Land (Ben Schnetzer) starts college determined to get his life back to normal. His brother, Brett (Nick Jonas), is already established on campus and with a fraternity that allures Brad with its promise of protection, popularity, and life-long friendships. Brad is desperate to belong but as he sets out to join the fraternity his brother exhibits reservations, a sentiment that threatens to divide them. As the pledging ritual moves into hell week, a rite that promises to usher these unproven boys into manhood, the stakes violently increase with a series of torturous and humiliating events. What occurs in the name of “˜brotherhood’ tests both boys and their relationship in brutal ways.

Directed by Andrew Neel (King Kelly, Darkon ), co-written by Neel, David Gordon Green and Mike Roberts, based on the acclaimed memoir by Brad Land, GOAT provides a searing portrayal of masculinity, violence and brotherhood. The film is produced by Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and David Hinojosa with Rabbit Bandini’s James Franco and Vince Jolivette.

Goat opens in theaters and on demand September 23.
