‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Characters Flash Thompson, Liz Allen, Ned Leeds Confirmed
  |  @   |

This past weekend, Marvel Studios hd something extra special to show their fans at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Aside from Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming made a very brief appearance to show Hall H attendees from exclusive footage (see our description of what was shown). Now, it’s very unlikely who were not in attendance will get to see this footage any time soon, but they’ll be able to get the entire film next year.

Here’s what we do know so far about the characters in director Jon Watts‘ Spider-Man film: Tom Holland is Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Zendaya plays Michelle, and the film will have a John Hughes vibe. But as for Tony Revolori, Jacob Batalon, and Laura Harrier, their characters have remained under wraps… until now. Check out who they play, and the connection their characters have to the Spider-Man lore here below.

Entertainment Weekly interviewed the Marvel Panel to get more details on the characters. Although they couldn’t reveal too much, as the film is still very much in production, Watts did say who the actors were playing. So here it is, with a little bit of a description.

Tony Revolori plays Flash. Okay, so as you might guess, that can only mean that the actor is playing Flash Thompson. Now, based on earlier reports, Revolori was to play a rival of sorts to Parker. And from the looks of that footage, that would seem so. However, there was no indication that he would be playing Flash Thompson. The character is normally portrayed as a bully to Peter Parker, consistently picking on him for being the high school geek. Flash has also appeared in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchises.

Laura Harrier will play Liz Allen, Peter Parker’s high school crush. Allen is one of the more popular girls in Parker’s high school, and oftentimes doesn’t even notice Parker. I can’t imagine Watts straying too far away from the character’s backstory given the John Hughes vibe seen in the film.

While we know that Zendaya plays Michelle, she is the only character who hasn’t officially received a last name. There has been speculation that the actress will actually be playing Michelle Gonzales, a character who has interacted with Peter Parker when he was an adult in the comics. They even had a short-lived relationship. Not sure how this really factors into the story.

Jacob Batalon will play Ned Leeds. Now, before I get into my minor (and it is very minor) gripe, Leeds was a character who worked at the Daily Bugle in the comics who gets brainwashed while on assignment and gets mistaken for the Hobgoblin. It’s an interesting choice about the last name, given that, at least I believe, it would have been better if they went with Ned Lee to be a better reflection of the character’s ethnicity. There was a Ned lee in the Spectacular Spider-Man animated series who was also a journalist at the Daily Bugle, so it was clearly a nod to the original character. So I’m just wondering why they didn’t go with Ned Lee. But that’s just me. Again, it’s a minor gripe, but I still would like to know why they couldn’t change the name.
