National Dog Day A Dog's Purpose

Every day it’s some sort of celebration, and today is National Dog Day, a day to celebrate man’s best friend. And what better way to honor them then to release a new trailer for A Dog’s Purpose, a film from Lasse Hallström (The Cider House Rules) that tells the story of a dog’s journey in life, and how his many reincarnated breeds has affected the lives of the many owners he (and she) has had.

Check out the weepy trailer here below.

As a dog owner, it was hard not to get too emotional while viewing this trailer, especially when some of the more spoiler scenes came in. The trailer does seem like it reveals a lot of the film, almost as if the entire story was told in a few short minutes. But I guess that couldn’t be avoided considering a major part of the story is that the dog’s spirit keeps being reincarnated. While that may seem a little bit creepy (even the dog is onto the somewhat faulty premise when asking himself the question “Is there a purpose to this journey of mine?”), it’s not hard to shed a tear or two, or just become a weepy mess.

The film from Universal stars Dennis Quaid, Peggy Lipton, Britt Robertson, K.J. Apa, Juilet Rylance, Luke Kirby, John Ortiz, Pooch Hall, and Josh Gad. It was written by W. Bruce Cameron (who wrote the book the screenplay is based on) & Cathryn Michon and Audrey Wells and Maya Forbes & Wally Wolodarsky.

A Dog’s Purpose arrives in theaters January 27, 2017.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Based on the beloved bestselling novel by W. Bruce Cameron, A Dog’s Purpose, from director Lasse Hallström (The Cider House Rules, Dear John, The 100-Foot Journey), shares the soulful and surprising story of one devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love. The family film told from the dog’s perspective also stars Dennis Quaid, Peggy Lipton, Britt Robertson, K.J. Apa, Juilet Rylance, Luke Kirby, John Ortiz and Pooch Hall.
