Oscar Winner Jim Broadbent Joins ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7
  |  @   |

We’re down to the final two seasons of Game of Thrones, and each of those last two seasons will be shorter than the already brief 10-episode previous six seasons.

But that doesn’t mean that HBO is going to stop bringing in top notch talent for the home stretch. The first newcomer to the cast for Game of Thrones season seven has been announced, and it is Academy Award winner Jim Broadbent.

Broadbent won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in the 2001 film Iris. He also won Golden Globes for Iris and the TV movie Longford; was nominated for Globes and Emmy Awards for Longford and The Gathering Storm; scored numerous BAFTA Award wins and nominations for Moulin Rouge!, Topsy-Turvy, The Iron Lady, and more; in addition to many other accolades in his career.

If I’m not mistaken, he is the first Oscar winner to join the cast of Game of Thrones. Both Max von Sydow and Keisha Castle-Hughes have nominations on their respective resumes. And of course the cast has plenty of Emmy and Golden Globe wins and nominations

Other popular titles Broadbent has appeared in include the Harry Potter series as Professor Horace Slughorn, Hot Fuzz (also featuring GoT stars Rory McCann and David Bradley), Brooklyn, Cloud Atlas, Gangs of New York, Brazil, and much more. He joins a few other Harry Potter movie franchise alums who have been Thrones cast members as well, including Natalia Tena, David Bradley, and Ciaran Hinds.

Unfortunately, what we do not yet know is who exactly Broadbent will be playing in season seven. All that is being said at the moment is that the role is “significant.”

The new season is set to film in Northern Ireland, Spain, and Iceland, and, as we know, it will premiere a little later than usual in the summer of 2017 instead of the familiar spring season opener.
