‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’: Familiar Looking Droid Revealed
  |  @   |

Droids are an essential part of the Star Wars saga, and I am not sure if that universe could actually function without them. Now with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story being one of the first of the standalone stories to explore the universe outside the saga, it’s going to be exciting to see the new characters that will be joining the expansive universe.

We already got a small look at the characters of Rogue One just a few months back, and confirmation that Darth Vader would make an appearance in the film as well. One of those new characters that stand out is the towering droid K-2SO (Alan Tudyk), and it appears he won’t be the only new droid out in the film. In fact, he will be joined by another droid that looks vaguely familiar. More on the story, as well as a video and image, below.

The Star Wars Show on YouTube revealed the latest droid that will appear in Rogue One. They confirmed that this new droid is C2-B5, a droid that basically looks like a dark color swap of RD-D2. They describe the droid like this:

“The Galactic Empire relies on astromech droids to maintain its machinery, but unlike the Rebel Alliance, Imperial technicians do not grant their droids independence and subjects them to frequent memory wipes to keep them subservient.”

The video doesn’t offer much less in terms of detail or what kind of role C2-B5 will have in the film. Based on the description from the video, it doesn’t seem like R2-D2 will be helping the Rogue One team infiltrate the Empire to steal the Death Star plans. Let’s remember, K-2SO was an Imperial Droid who was re-programed by the Rebel Alliance. And just in case you cannot see the video below, we’ve got a full image of the new droid that you will see in the upcoming film.

Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn, Mads Mikkelsen, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, and Genevieve O’Reilly star.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on December 16, 2016.
