‘Live By Night’ Trailer: Ben Affleck Climbs Up The Proverbial Prohibition Gangster Ladder
  |  @   |

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Ben Affleck‘s Live By Night. Set in the roaring 20s during the Prohibition era, Affleck plays Joe Coughlin, the son of the Boston Police Superintendent, who has strayed away from his upstanding roots to become a gangster who will make a name for himself, even if that means going against some of the most notorious mobsters and crimelords.

Check out the trailer here below.

Affleck’s latest feature is an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel of the same name. It’s rare to see a film nowadays set during the early days of the Prohibition era, so Live By Night is a bit of a refresher. The style, the look, the cars, and the fashion of it all is just so cool.

The film also stars Scott Eastwood, Elle Fanning, Zoe Saldana, Sienna Miller, Chris Sullivan, Anthony Michael Hall, Brendan Gleeson, Titus Welliver, Chris Messina, Chris Cooper, and Derek Mears.

Live By Night will have a limited release in December 2016, which means it’s gearing for an awards campaign, and judging by Affleck’s track record, it looks like it can get a few nominations. The film then expands to a wide release on January 13, 2017.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

“Live by Night” is set in the roaring ’20s, when Prohibition hasn’t stopped the flow of booze in an underground network of gangster-run speakeasies. The opportunity to gain power and money is there for any man with enough ambition and nerve, and Joe Coughlin, the son of the Boston Police Superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw. But even among criminals there are rules, and Joe breaks a big one: crossing a powerful mob boss by stealing his money and his moll. The fiery affair ends in tragedy, setting Joe on a path of revenge, ambition, romance and betrayal that propels him out of Boston and up the ladder of Tampa’s steamy rum-running underworld.
