Daniel Craig Was Never Offered $150 Million To Reprise James Bond Role For Two Films
  |  @   |

It looks like Daniel Craig‘s tenure as James Bond has finally come to an end. Not too long ago, a rumor popped up saying that the actor had been offered $150 million to reprise his role as 007 for back-to-back films. There was a huge lack of evidence to support this claim and Craig didn’t seem the least bit enthused about playing the role a fourth time during the production of Spectre.

Now, a new report says that Sony and Eon offered no such deal; in fact, it seems as though Sony has no power to do so since the rights to Bond are currently up for grabs. More on the story below.

Vanity Fair says:

Craig, 48, has been offered no such deal, sources say, and negotiations to pin down who will portray 007 in upcoming Bond installments are still ongoing. (Sony and MGM, the secret agent franchise’s co-distributor, declined comment.)

It is really no surprise that no offer (especially one that amounts to $150 million) has been made to the actor to return, considering that he had previously said that he would “rather break this glass and slash my wrists” than do another Bond movie. Those kinds of comments make it clear that he just wants to move on from it all. So it makes no sense that Sony or Eon would even offer that kind of deal with someone who clearly is no longer interested in the character or the franchise. Sources say that studio execs weren’t pleased with Craig’s comments.

So where does Eon go from here? Well they are still clearly searching for an actor, who hopefully won’t want to “slash” his wrists by the end of his tenure. A huge problem with the rumored report was that Sony was said to be making the offer out to Craig, when in reality, the studio does not have such power to do so because their deal with Eon expired after Spectre.

Basically, the $150 million deal never, ever, happened.

The report goes on to say that Disney, Paramount, Universal, and Warner Bros. are all eyeing to claim the distribution rights. Of course, if one of them does happen to get it, they would have some huge input as to who would play the title character. But the final decision would come from Eon Productions and MGM Studios. Rumors have it that Idris Elba, Jamie Bell, Aidan Turner, Damian Lewis, Jack Hutson, and Tom Hardy are in consideration for the role.
